More great service from Kel-tec

Just got the top of my P-11 back from Kel-tec with its sexy new parkerization (is that a word?). The work is absolutely flawless, and for some reason they sent me a new steel guide rod and new recoil springs. And it cost me a whopping $15 plus shipping one way. Now it's off to the range for a quick 100rds to make sure she still goes bang. :D That settles it, I'm picking up a P-40 next week.

I'm glad to hear you received good service and value from Kel-tec. I'm also a happy Kel-tec owner, and have sent back all four of my Kel-tecs for the hard chrome upgrade (also nice, and a great value).

BUT, be a little cautious regarding the P40. I believe it has been discontinued due to frequent reliablilty problems. I've been very pleased with my P11 and P32s, but my P40 has never proven reliable, in spite of polishing, lubricating, trying a variety of ammo, etc. I'm planning to send it back to Kel-tec to see what they can do with it.

You'll often hear that the only problem with the P40s is "limp wristing" - but many people (myself included) who are able to shoot all kinds of handguns without a problem, apparently use improper technique and/or are too weak in the wrists to shoot the P40. As a handgun intended to close range self defense, I'm not comfortable with the idea that the gun will jam unless I use a very firm two-hand hold with it. And I get fail to feed problems even when I DO use a firm two handed hold (I'm 6'2", 240lbs, not especially weak). I still have hopes that Kel-tec will resolve the problem, and if I can't get it to work with the .40 barrel I may try a .357 Sig barrel (the bottle neck is supposed to help with the feeding problems). For what it's worth, my P40 frequently jams when feeding the first round from the magazine (insert magazine, hold grip firmly, pull slide all the way back, release, round jams on feed ramp). This got a little better after I polished the feed ramp, but it still is far from 100%. If you are looking at a P40, you might try to get the dealer to manually cycle a magazine or two of ammo through the pistol for you. If you load .40 S&W, you might consider loading a few rounds without powder or primers so the dealer will feel more comfortable cycling them through the action (or letting you do it). Good luck.

As of today I have 10,600 rds thru mine. The only real problem I have had with it is that for some reason it doesn't like to feed Cor-bons. Since I never intended to use Cor-bons as a carry ammo, I've never looked to closely at why. Most of the ammo run thru it has been Wolf, quite abit of the south african surplus lately. I carry CCI Gold dots which work really well, but I'm thinking of switching over to Federal Ny-clads. I've put 300 rds of Ny-clads thru with no problems and they have less recoil and better accuracy than the Gold dots.

just shy of 550 thru my p11. i had to send it back because of a bad failure to feed problem around 275 though. took exactly one week, and also paid the $20 to have the hard chrome slide/barrel put on it. since then, no problems. looks like they polished the feedramp on it, other then that, got me. it works well and i carry every day

I've shot 2 P-40's and haven't had any problems with feeding ammo, but I've heard alot of people have had that problem. Both of the pistols I have shot have been equiped with heavier recoil springs, and I think that is the solution to the problem. And even if it isn't, with Kel-tecs customer service and life-time warranty, I'm not overly worried.

P11 Experience

I've had mine for about 3 months and have about 500 or so rounds through it without a hitch.

It seems to like everything i have fed it: Wolf, Federal, and Winchester (all 115 grain). I carry Federal 124 grain Hydra-Shok for CCW. I have read to stay way from Cor-bon and +P.

I use the belt clip (SOB) for deep concealment but don't keep a round in the chamber when i carry this way.

The belt clip is also great to use with a belly band. I wear mine under the arm for a cross draw. Very difficult to detect and i can wear a shirt tucked.

I find myself carrying it more often than my Glock 30 or my Beretta 92 Custom Carry.

Love the gun.
