More fuel for the antis... 7 dead in Seattle

I'm sure you guys will see this one plastered all over the news and the antis calling for the banning of all weapons. Either that or they may suggest that all hunting and target guns must be kept in a police armory and all other guns banned like most of Europe.

These kinds of things are terrible for the pro gun crowd. Any time a nut job goes off the deep end and decides he doesn't want to go alone, the antis say that without guns, such mass slayings would be impossible. There is some truth to that... but the fact is that there are already too many guns in circulation to remove them all from circulation. More importantly, it prevents us law abiding citizens from defending ourselves from these nut jobs and other criminals who have no regard for the law... much less so for gun laws.

What can we do against these kinds of situations? How do we explain our position to those kids parents?

I was watching Chief Gil Kerlikowske of the Seattle Police Department in his interview after this massacre. All I could think of was on the previous day he was honored by CeaseFire for his efforts at gun control.

Not surprisingly, Chief Kerlikowske is the same knucklehead that had his Glock 26 stolen from his publicly owned Crown Victoria after debating Wayne LaPierre in 2004 regarding what would happen when the AWB expired. Chief Gil Kerlikowske predicted high capacity weapons would be stolen from homes and automobiles. Thus far, his gun has not been recovered.

Chief Kerlikowske is one of the most vehement anti-gun police chiefs in office.
But for a single nail, a nation was lost.

Mass slayings are possible with a number of weapons. A bad guy could drive his truck into a crowd, make a bomb, start swinging a sword around, arson, etc.

How do we explain our position to those kids parents?
We have to explain just what I said above. They have to realize that is someone wants to kill people, guns aren't the only tool they can use. Furthermore, they have to realize that making guns illegal won't stop criminals from getting them from the black market which is already illegal. If one of the people at that party had a CHL, the attacker could have been stopped. That is the answer, more guns in the hands of law abiding citizens are what's needed, not laws that restrict gun ownership to criminals.

US 'Zombie party' killings probed

Police are investigating the fatal shooting of six young revellers at a house party in the US city of Seattle.

They were killed, and two others wounded, when a fellow guest went on a gun rampage before finally killing himself when confronted by police.

They were at a "zombie party", where guests wear make-up to make them look dead, in the city's Capitol Hill area.

Police are baffled as to what sparked the incident, which took place in the early morning as the party wound down.

"We have absolutely no idea what the motive is," Seattle police chief Gil Kerlikowske said. "These appear to be almost execution-style shootings. He expended a large number of rounds inside that house."

People inside the house began running and screaming in terror Seattle police chief Gil Kerlikowske The victims were five males and two females, aged from their mid-teens to their 20s, police said.

"It was a zombie party. People had a lot of make-up on," Mr Kerlikowske said. "There was fake blood squirted, and people were made-up to look as if they were dead."

Weapons in truck

The gunman, in his 20s and believed to be a Seattle resident, is reported to have been invited to the house party after attending a "zombie rave" for about 1,000 people, also in Capitol Hill, earlier on Friday night.

As the house party was winding down at 0700 (1500 GMT) on Saturday morning, the killer reportedly left the house and went to his truck, parked nearby to collect a pistol grip shotgun and handgun and to don bandoliers of spare shotgun shells.

As he walked the half block back to the house he paused to spray paint the word "Now" in three spots - twice on the pavement and once on the steps of a neighbour's home, police said.

Once back inside the house he started shooting.

"People inside the house began running and screaming in terror," Mr Kerlikowske said. "A pistol-grip shotgun is a weapon not designed for hunting purposes but for hunting people."

Hiding in bathroom

Having killed two people on the ground floor, he then went upstairs looking for more victims, police said.

He tried to get into a bathroom where two girls were hiding. When the locked door impeded him he fired through the door, but the girls were left unharmed.

Word 'Now' sprayed on pavement The killer spray painted the word 'Now' three times

The gunfire was heard by neighbours and a police officer just a block away, who rushed to the scene.

When the police officer, Steve Leonard, arrived he found one person staggering out of the house with a bullet wound.

He confronted another man with a shotgun, who turned it on himself after being told several times to put it down, Mr Kerlikowske said.

About 20 party guests were taken to Seattle police headquarters for counselling and questioning, police sergeant Deanna Nollette said.

"This is basically one of the most serious and significant crimes we have had in this city. The number of young people who witnessed what happened is disturbing."

Police said they did not know whether drugs or alcohol were a factor, though Mr Kerlikowske said marijuana and alcohol were found in the house.

edited to say

Don't you guys see some irony in this zombie party? What do they do in those zombie movies but shoot zombies

Drugs, alcohol and zombies. What do you think happened? There are probably a fair number of people on this board that would start shooting at undead if they appeared, regardless of whether they were hopped up on drugs or not.

Guns are used for mass slayings? Boxcutters were used to perpetrate the largest attack ever on American soil. Damn anti-gun twits!

From the updated story above ...

Leib said Huff, who went by the name Kyle, was charged with felony criminal mischief in 2000 after shooting a statue of a moose with a shotgun at an art exhibit in Whitefish.

This man could not purchase or own a shotgun under current laws -- though it doesn't actually say he was convicted of the felony, since they found out about it he probably was.

It's a horrendous story, does make me think a little bit.

But since he was willing to find a weapon illegally, a gun ban probably wouldn't have stopped him, since guns will always be able to be smuggled in for those who want them bad enough and are willing to break the law.

And since he broke existing laws, more gun laws wouldn't have stopped him.

But even if those raving (probably) druggies had CCW's, they couldn't have been carrying under the influence in most states. Just shows how vulnerable you are in that situation.

I'm willing to bet good money that while all these deaths in one event were shocking, at least that many people die every single weekend from drug and other Rave related issues nationwide. Probably that many are murdered in Rave related crimes, just not all in one place.

As frustrated and angry as we can become with these folks it's unfortunately our job to educate them at every opportunity.
The name calling is satisfying for a while but the real work is to change their "alledged" minds! I'll guarantee you this: They don't feel as strongly about their position as we do about ours! They "go off" on an incident by incident basis. We don't! Our resolve is heightened by these events but regardless we remain unyeilding.

They are the obvious threat but I worry about the not so obvious. The wholesale trampling of our rights due to terrorist "safeguards".
Today it's your Google searches ... tomorrow........????

Please, if you ever go off the deep end, find a way of killing a bunch of people without using a gun. It will help prove a point and perhaps give some meaning to your clearly empty life.

:p

I tried to keep it not a CCW issue, but an overall gun opposition/proponent issue. It is a CCW issue only in that CCW would have placed a gun on the scene to stop the masaacre sooner.

The obscured story is that gun control legislation already in place (felon possession of a firearm) did not stop a man who was not going to obey the law anyway. Only an armed response did.

But records indicate Kyle Huff did have a fondness for firearms. On Nov. 21, 2000, Whitefish police arrested Kyle for blasting downtown moose sculptures with a shotgun and a handgun. Originally charged with felony criminal mischief, it later was reduced to a misdemeanor and small a fine.

Police also were tracing the firearms to determine where the gunman got them and how he was able to purchase so many rounds of ammunition without attracting attention. Whitcomb said scores of unanswered questions remain, but detectives are working as diligently and quickly as possible.

He described the gunman's weaponry as an arsenal and said given the amount of ammunition he had, it was fortunate more people weren't killed.

Sentenced was reduced on Felony so he could own a gun...
What was that 1000 round law in Califorinia.... I really hope that doesn't start to spread out, even the idea of such a law....

Found alcohol and marijuana on the scene, wonder what kind of pills they had at the rave. Not saying that was the cause but this guy probably didnt have a full deck to begin with and if popped a few pills  no telling what he thought.

I read that one lady had a 15 year old daughter that was out till 7am at the rave and party. what are 15 year old kids doing out all night partying with folks 21 and up?
