More Bar room beating by off-duty LEO's.

Mods, this is a seperate story from the one where the LEO beat the tar out of a bertender and it was videotaped. This is one where 6 LEO's beat up 4 people in a bar, braking one guy's nose and breaking the ribs of another. This one was also videotaped, but they arn't releasing it right now.

Some of the article:
According to Steven Fine, a lawyer for the four men, the six officers “kicked, punched and stomped” his clients at the Jefferson Tap and Grille in the West Loop, dragging at least one of the men outside.

At one point during the early morning attack on Dec. 15, an on-duty officer responded to a 911 call, spoke to one of the off-duty officers, then left, Fine said. Later, other police arrived and did speak to Fine’s clients, but no arrests were made.

Charges, Fine argued, should have been filed by now.

“Had it been a typical bar fight there would have been an arrest made that night,” he said. “They have enough evidence to make an arrest, and it just seems to be a case where they’re protecting their own.”

Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said Monday that the Cook County state’s attorney’s office is investigating. No one has been charged.

The videotape is evidence and so would not be immediately released, she said.

“Hopefully we’ll have something that we can release very soon,” she said.

Fine said he’ll ask a judge April 2 to grant him access to the video. He also wants the judge to order the release of the names of the officers accused of being involved.

In a separate incident reported last week, a videotape released by attorneys showed 24-year-old bartender Karolina Obrycka being punched, kicked and thrown to the ground by an off-duty police officer at Jesse’s Short Stop Inn.

More allegations of off-duty police beatings.

Maybe so, maybe not, people protect their own and then the 4 may have earned what they got.
Not enough info known to make a decision yet. IMO

What do all these threads about LEO's beating up people have anything to do with the TFL? Just looking for another excuse to flame law enforcement? I guess we just forget about all the great things LEO's do everyday and decide to dwell on the very few bad cops.

Very true rem33. Once the video is released we will know more. Right now it is basicly a "your word against mine" thing and as long as the tape doesn't "disapear" I'm sure we will see what happened.

No way to back it up, but from what I have heard it was the off-duty LEO's who started it. The victims were playing pool when the off duty LEO's showed up. That is what I have heard. It's worth what you paid for it.

From reading the link it appears the officer who beat up the bartender is charged with felony assualt charges and police said they intend to fire him in another article. Flushed his 12 years down the drain. it looks like the police department and the DA are not ignoring it.

Well duh - that tape ain't gonna get doctored and parts removed just overnight ya know.

What, like the Zapruder film? "It was the Cubans! Over by the grassy knoll!"

The problem I see here (assuming the original post is factual and all), is not the 6 bad cops that beat some people at a bar. It's the entire precinct and DA protecting them that disturbs me. That doesn't equal just 6 cops anymore. It equals a bunch of LEO willing to make unethical, maybe illegal, compromises.

Well, in fairness even assuming the victims are telling the truth we don't know yet that the DA/PD are going to ultimately protect them. Charges may not have been filed yet, but they could simply be taking their time to A) decide how to hang them out to dry and B) make sure it gets done right.

It's possible.

I will say that history tells me it's unlikely...but not unheard of (as another poster has pointed out with the other case...I've not been following either so I can't speak intelligently on them) But I say we wait and see just a little while longer to see how the DA/PD ultimately react. EDIT: And whether the charges have merit.

In the other case, little charges were filed, then serious charges were filed. Then again, the chicago case had a full blown video that everyone and his brother has seen on either the news, or YouTube.

The Chicago defendant and her lawyer have alledged that cops and DA's have been either bribing them or threatening to plant fake evidence, like drugs in the defendant's car, etc. It'll be pretty disgusting and embarrassing for the Chicago PD if they can prove these allegations. Emphasis on "if."
