Is the Miwall .357 bulk new ammo a good deal? It is the same price as their .38 special (on outdoormarksman.com). Will I wear out/ruin my gun by putting lots of magnums through it, or is it happy to do it?

Also, any thoughts on a good holster for around the house? Something which I could clip to PJ's or a robe, rather than a belt.

What letter frame is the 686?

Thanks again for all info

I'm sure that your gun would be just as happy with both. Now if you are???For me it is no fun shooting a lot of .357 that recoil can get old fast. :)

You can shoot .357 all day long in a 686. The "L" frame is very sturdy and can take the punnishment. Even if you have to pay a little more for .357 ammo it's worth it. More bang for the buck! :D

Ammo for 686

The 686 (SS) and twin 586 (blue/wood) were built to handle .357 all day, but that beats the crap out of me (love all that smoke and fire, though). When I go to the range, I normally shoot a lot of .38, then at the end of the day I put a couple of cylinders of .357 through it just to remind me what this baby can do. :D

Fobus holster

I've had my 6" 586 ever since Smith came out with it, and I love it! Match accuracy right out of the box and nary a moment's trouble with it. For a quick use and fairly secure holster, look into the Isreali made Fobus. It's a medium security retention holster with a paddle that slips quickly and securely inside your pants or belt. They're made of a molded plastic material that fits your gun very tightly, and the best part? They're only around $20.

Fobus paddle?

I was looking at their website, and there are a couple of different models. Does the standard paddle onr have a clip to hang it on your pants, or do you need a belt for this model? Any more info would be appreciated. I've been looking for a good holster for around the house...

Fobus

When I first saw a Fobus, I thought "cheesey". But I gotta tell ya, these things are slick. I now own four of them, and that's all I use for CCW. They work with or without a belt. The paddle slips down the inside of your pants, or over a belt. There is a "lip" down low on the paddle that goes over the lower edge of your belt (even with the paddle inside your pants) that makes it hard for someone else to remove it, or for it to fall out when you bend over. They are molded for specific make/models of handguns and fit very tightly. Unless you pull straight out, there's no unholstering your weapon, especially by someone else fighting with you, but there are more secure retention holsters. In spite of this, I've found a draw from them to be very fast and smooth, even when tucked in the small of my back. My personal preference is the non-swivel style. And what the hay! You can't go wrong for twenty bucks! :D
