monopods and taller bi- and tripods

Due to a near fatal auto accident which left me in hospitals for 111 days and barely able to function fully as regards either walking or breathing much less full limb functions such as being able to raise my left hand above my shoulder. Much was due to blood pressure medication.

This made driving to a range impossible impossible (though tree dwelling cannibals at the accident site carried off the car so my insurance company found no record of it) but I was unable to lift a rifle or shotgun to shoulder position. For that reason as my strength improved I considered using not only my Harris short 9" bipod for prone shooting but as well something higher to permit sitting shots (from a chair) as well as standing.

I just got a Cabela's long monopod and find it seems to fit my M-96 Mauser well. An important factor as the sucker is a typical ol' crotch long gun of that era. Ditto for certain shotguns where I may want a steady hold for a pattern shot if I feel weak. For that matter I would like to try some of my Indian wall gun matchlocks (which are around 7/8" bore) as trap guns.

Does anyone have any views on this type of support? My inclination is strictly recreational shooting at various ranges.

I recently borrowed a fellow's cane to try out for that. It has a "pistol grip" off to the side of the rod and a 4-legged base. Worked fairly well for sitting/kneeling. About $20-$30 at WMart.
