Money Talks, Glock Walks?

The largest (and toughest T&E) federal contract for 40 pistols and ammo to date is the INS/BP for Beretta Brigadiers and Rem/Fed 155 JHPs. Kicked Glock and SIGs butt in reliability during the T&E. They issue the Beretta, approve the SIG as an option. Liked the Berettas enough to renew the contract. When they wanted a smaller gun for plainclothes agents, they bought USP compacts, passing over the SIG and Glock again.

The feds have lottsa money (most of it yours) and do some extensive T&Es.
There are about 65,000 armed federal agents (not military) and most carry Beretta/SIG 9/40s.

Most (80%) PDs in this country have less than 20 officers, shoestring budgets, do little if any _real_ T&E, and carry Glocks.

Does this really mean anything? Who knows?

I can hear the hornets buzzing already... :)

It's all a matter of taste. Both my Glock 22 and my Beretta 8040 have operated flawlessly. The Glock takes some getting used to, so that may be why you don't see it much in Federal applications. It is one of the furthest things from a 1911 that alot are used to. I know that as far as capacity goes, the full capacity mags for my Glock can hold 4 more rounds than the full capacity mags for my Beretta. I would bet my life on either. Also, I have absolutely no personal experience with any SIG so I won't comment either way on them.

OTOH, the Effa-Bee-Eye just picked a winner, too...

And a loser of a projectile to shoot through it... Like a standard pressure .40 kicks that badly? I thought the whole point behind the .40 Short&Weak was that the 10mm had too much recoil for small agents. Now the .40 itsownself needs to be downloaded? If FBI agents continue to atrophy at this rate, all those shiny new Glocks are gonna have Ciener .22LR conversion kits on 'em by this time next year.

Oddly, no kB!'s when firing the multiple stage round-lodged-in-barrel tests. Didn't they know those things are supposed to detonate at the drop of a hat? :D

10mm: It's not the size of the Dawg in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog!
