I have a 24/47 I picked up and put a Mojo rear sight on because I wanted to be able to dial elevation a little more precisely. I left the front sight (narrow pyramid) in place. I like the "peep and post" sighting the best for irons, similar to the basic AR-15 style sights.
I like everything so far, but I noticed something that gave me a little pause. The hood over the front sight is very close to the top of the sight and can be seen just a little in the sight picture from the rear aperture. See this poorly drawn picture for reference, the gray crescent at the top is the top of the sight hood.
I also noticed that my groups (surplus ammo) are "ok", but spread is primarily vertical stringing. I'm wondering if the sight hood in the field of view is causing me to have trouble centering the post vertically. Has anyone experienced similar problems, or am I just imagining this to be a problem and need to get in some practice time? I have done quite a bit of thinking on it and can't figure out how to solve the problem without removing the front sight hood, which I would really want to keep to maintain the looks and because the post seems relatively fragile without it.
