Mohawk 48 Info

I need some info about a Mohawk 48. The only thing I found on Remington's web was that they were made from 1970 to 74. Four years in production does not sound good to me.
I came across this gun in the local pawn shop. There is one chip in the stock were it meets the receiver. Otherwise the gun appears to be in good shape.
It has a 28" barrel with a full choke. They want $250.00 for it. Is this worth buying? Was this a reliable shotgun, is there replacement barrels and parts available?
Any information would be greatly apprecated.
 
I show the Remington Model 48 being made from 1948 to 1960.

It was made in a variety of versions and grades including the Mohawk, which was an early budget gun name Remington used, much like today's Express name.

Prices for standard non-deluxe Model 48's run around $250 to $300 for one in 95% condition.

I would imagine a Mohawk budget model would cost a few dollars less.

I bought one in 1971 (slightly) used for $75.00. Its owner was a friend of mine who bought it a K-Mart for $99.00, then he had a heart attack and the doctor told him no more shooting. It had been fired six times.

I used it for everything from doves to geese until 1984, when I bought my Citori. I still have it and it works fine.

It is recoil actuated, I believe a continuation of the model 11. Fit was crucial for me because it recoils more than a gas operated gun.

I was told once that when the 1100 came out, the remaining 11-48s were stamped Mohawk 48 and discounted. I have no idea if that is true.
