Modify 870 18"HD for turkey?

Hello everyone,

This is my first post on this forum, sorry in advance if this question has been run by before! I scanned through the previous posts and did not see anything but there was a heck of a lot of posts and I may have missed it.

I have a Model 870™ Express® Synthetic (18" Barrel/mag cap 6) that I would like to be able set up for some fall turkey hunting ,then switch back for home defense.

I was looking at getting the Hastings® 870 12-Gauge Economy Turkey Barrel
and possibly a Simmons red dot scope.

I am assuming they make a plug that will limit the ammo capacity but I am not for sure.

Another question is : Will that scope fit on that barrel?

I have been using www.cabelas.com for a reference, but all purchasing will be done through the local dealer where I purchased the gun.

Any help or your oppinions would be great.

Hastings is getting a fine rep for their barrels. The econo barrel should work for turkey with the tightest choke they offer in the package and some research on loads.

I've no idea if it's compatible with that red dot.

A wooden dowel about 3/8" cut to the right length will serve as a mag plug.
 
Good news, I did end up finding out that the scope would fit the barrel. :)

Bad news, the spot I had planned on turkey hunting has fallen through. :(

I guess I will try for deer elsewhere in Illinois.
