Modern .45 Colt revolver?

I remeber hearing about a modern wheelgun chambered in .45 Colt (as opposed to a Colt SAA).

I thought it would make a great home defense gun if I could ever find one. It may have been a Smith & Wesson made 30 or 40 years ago, but I could be wrong.

Has anyone heard of such a thing?

.45 Colt is a very common chambering in single action revolvers... I'm a bit confused by your question. Unless you meant .45 ACP (.45 auto).

Smith and Taurus both make a double-action .45 ACP revolvers that use full- or half-moon clips.

Oh... I reread your post. :o You want a double-action revolver that fires .45 Colt. I think S&W makes a "Mountain Revolver" chambered in .45 Colt. There's also the Model 25.

click here for the S&W page on this gun

I have a S&W ,45 Colt N frame revolver with a 4 inch barrel and adjistable sights. It was a production gun when I biught it about 12 years ago. I don't know if S&W still makes them.

New to the forum and glad to be here.

I've been using handguns for about 30+ years and glad to be there.

Taurus makes both a snub (2") and a Tracker (4") in a five shot 45 Colt in stainless and Titanium. They both are ported, and the 4" has adjustable sights. They are also reportedly making a fixed sight Ti 4" with no porting.

I have owned the former two is SS and they were great guns, but the ammo availability caused me to move to the 45ACP guns of like nature from Taurus. They use a "stellar" clip for reloading, and provide a short ejection and a faster reload than the speedloader (CA44) for the 45 Colt.

For a defensive gun, I would be happy with the performance of any of the ones I have owned, but the DEFENSIVE ammo versatility and availability issues tipped the scales to the 45 ACP for me.

I think 45 is always a good caliber for defense. I also have a Glock 21, a Blackhawk 45Colt/45ACP, and a Taurus Millennium in 45ACP. I am after all, 45+.

Great shooters, tons of fun. Maybe some of the other members will post examples of the many variations.

Smith currently produces a Model 25 (N Frame, catalog #160929), four-inch tapered barrel, and beautifully blued revolver in .45 Colt. Last year they produced a virtually identical Mountain Gun (Model 625-9) in stainless steel.

JoeHatley is right on the money. I too have an older Smith 25-5, much worked on, and a fairly new Mountain Gun, both in .45 Colt. I have another one, a 1917 Colt. The .45 Colt is as modern and effective as anything that has ever been chambered in a revolver.
Oh, I know that you can carry a .44 Mag or .454 Casul, but the .45 Colt has not been surpassed yet as an effective man stopper.

there is also the current 2004 Mountain Gun,
model 25-13 which is a 4 inch N frame in blue
just got one.
love it

Smith & Wesson and Taurus both currently list "modern" revolvers chambered in .45 Colt (although S&W's is the limited production "Mountain Gun"), don't forget the Colt Anaconda which was also chambered in .45 Colt - although I believe it was only available in the 6" barrel in the .45 Colt chambering.

You know I'm a Ruger fan but that 25-5 just does somethin' for me.... :D
As for 45colt for home defense. Count me in.
Nothin like a 45cal ashtray finding its mark
:p

I very much enjoy my 625 in .45 Colt. There's something about those honkin' big cartridges that's very reassuring.

Amen to that Tamara!

I still like to place the 45Colt next to a 44mag and marvel at the difference!
Not a good pic but you get the gist!
