Just picked up a used (but in new condition in the box) S&W Model 63 Stainless Kit gun .22lr. (I won't buy a new S&W anymore but that a different thread)

I bought it for my Kids with small hands and it fits them both perfectly 9 & 16 yrs old. Yes you read it right I BOUGHT A GUN FOR MY CHILDREN TO USE AND LEARN HOW TO SHOOT AND HAVE FUN. I know in some places that would make me a bad person but hopefully not here!

Anyway it came with the original wood grips and I was told it was a J frame. I want to get some Hogue or Pac's for it when I shoot it and all I see offered is Model 64. Is my 63 the same thing just in stainless? Thanks for the help!

The mod. 64 is a stainless mod 10, in other words a K frame. The mod 63 is indeed a J frame as are models 37, 38, 60, 638, 649, 442 and on and on and on. To order gips you'll also need to know if you have a round or square butt frame. If the grip portion of the frame comes to a sort of a point at the heel of your hand it is a square butt. A round butt has a more rounded backstrap. Both Houge and Pacmyahr offer grips for J frame Smiths as do most other handgun grip manufacturers.
Hope you and the kids enjoy your new purchase; I've always had a soft spot for J frame 22s.
