If that M99 has it's front receiver ring D/T'd for a scope, depending upon it's 50's DOM, it may have been altered after it left the factory.
IIRC, Savage didn't start the scope prep until sometime around 1955.
If it has the holes, and they're not factory, the gun would have little value to a collector, but still make a good hunting rifle.
The DOM, expressed as the Savage Date Code Letter, should be stamped inside a circle near or on the receiver's lever boss (aka: Lever Boss Code); starting with an "A" in 1949, then "B", "C", etc, etc.
I sold a pristine/unmolested .300 Savage M99EG last year for appreciable money - A .250 would have brought a lot more, since the .250's have been "hot" lately.
