Model 94 buy help

I'm thinking of getting a model 94 type rifle. This gun will jsut be for fun shooting and shooting in a 50 yard internet competetion. I'm leaning towards getting a Winchester in .45 LC. What do you all think? Any drawbackd to the .45 LC for what I want to do? Would another caliber be better? What about getting an actual old 94? Are they good to shoot or just collect? How do Marlins compare to Winchesters? By the way, if I get one .45 LC I'll just have to get a pistol to go with it....

Thanks

Fred

Model 94

This year I did just the opposite. I traded a Mitchel Arms Colt clone for a new Colt in .45 Colt. Several months later I bought a Winchester Model 94 Trapper in .45 Colt. Managed to load a round that shoots well out of both. The Marlin is nice as are some of the other clones, both that Winchester is real sweet, and a great shooter. I suppose its like the man said, anything that ain't a Colt (or Winchester) is just an imitation.

I have my dad's Winchester 94 (.30-30) which he bought in the mid-1920's. It still shoots great, although I don't shoot it much anymore as it is a family heirloom.:)

The 94 is a classic. No other rifle carries like it. If you are looking for one in a pistol caliber, look at the 357 magnum. The new ones have the cross bolt safety. I like this as it makes a safer rifle.
