MODEL 700 SENDERO

Anyone out there have any opinions on this rifle particularly in 300 win mag. I am thinking about getting one and was wondering if they are worth the money. Speaking from a maintenance prospective, if you take proper care of your firearms ie: rust protection do you really need to pay the extra for the stainless barrel?

I have one in 25-06. Love it. It shoots far better than can I. Very solid rifle - accurate and reliable. You will want a trigger job done on it though - they come a little heavy. The rem. 700 works on 4 action screws (trigger) but have a remington certified gunsmith do the work for liability reasons.

The Sendaro is fine, without the stainless barrel. The trigger is heavy, but you don't need a certified gunsmith to adjust it, unless you think that it has four (4) adjustment screws. There are three (3) adjustment screws. Adjusting the trigger is so simple that even a DemocRAT could be trained to do it, given no time constraints.

Do a search for Rem. 700 trigger adjustments and you'll see several threads with links to instructons for adjusting the Rem. 700 trigger.

FWIW, I've adjusted dozens of Rem. 700 triggers, with absolutely no failures of any kind. If I can do it safely, so can you. Remington used to include trigger adjustment instructions with their 700's, but our increasingly-litigious society precludes their doing that now.

Thanks for your input guys, I think I've made my decision and will be getting the new rifle in 300 win mag this week and look forward to heading to the range to try it out.

Walter, what do you have against the stainless barrel? I only have one Sendero and it has a 26" stainless barrel.
It came from the factory with a 4.5 lb trigger pull which is a bit heavy but it breaks like glass as they say. Mine is chambered in 7MM STW and I have only taken it hunting on a few occasions as it is a fairly heavy and cumbersome rig.
The rifle will produce around MOA with 140 gr. Nosler Partitions and it's favorite brew.
D-SEC, You are off to the store pretty quickly but I don't think that you will regret your decision.
I looked up some info in the rifle's log. It's been on only one deer hunt and produced a 165 lb doe at 225 yds. The only other recorded kill that I could find was a coyote that wandered out on the firing range! :D:D:D:D Range estimated 360 yds.

Hank: I have absolutely nothing against stainless barrels. As a matter of fact, I use match stainless barrels, exclusively, in my Glocks.

The question was, did the originator of this thread NEED to spend the extra $$$ for stainless? My answer, to that specific question is, "NO!"

I'd definitely not get the stainless fluted, or any other fluted, for that matter. (See "Wisdom of Gale McMillan.")

Sendero

Howdy,

I have a new SF Sendero but in .25-06. I have to say I love the rifle. I had the gun accurized....so the trigger problem is gone..no uptake and it breaks at 3 lbs. Took it to the range last weekend to sight her in and shot a three shot group that measured .25 in. center to center using Federal Premium ammo.

Stainless or no stainless is a personal thing. You'll find people on both sides of the fence. I myself like stainless and don't mind paying a little more for it. But that's just my feelings on the subject.

Good luck....the Sendero is a great rifle....even though the lock on the bolt is weird.

My next gun will be either a Sendero in 300 win mag, or a Savage BVSS in 300 win mag. I really like the accuracy and price of the Savage. Anyone have any experience with the Savage in 300 Win mag?

Marty my son has a bvss in 300 win.mag. It does a very respectable job. The heavy barrel makes it very easy to shoot offhand. All the weight hanging out there really helps. All in all he is very happy with it.

WalterGAII, That's why I keep dicking up my weapons!!! I spoke out of my fourth point of contact - thanks for correcting me. I was showed how to do it once, but figure the worst gunsmith is 100 times better than me with a screwdriver and ball peen hammer. I could screw up two miles of railraod track with a wet sponge. That's why I recommended the 'smith. Keep us honest,

Legalhack: I really didn't mean for my post to come off as ascerbic. There are printed instructions available on the internet that are really easy to follow. It's really a simple job. I'd recommend keeping the screwdriver, but 86ing the ballpeen hammer. :)

I know that $35-$40 isn't a lot to spend with a gunsmith for peace-of-mind, but paying even that much for a job that takes about five minutes and is really simple just infuriates me.

On the other hand, one of my neighbors just paid a local lawyer $13,500 for closing a real estate loan. Title search probably took about thirty minutes. Now THAT's a ripoff!!

WalterGAII - Agree with the lawyer analogy. Didn't take you post negatively - truly meant thanks for keeping me honest. I'll try to keep my comments to something I may know something about (if I can ever find something...) :)

Thanks again.

PS, I truly don't like most lawyers.......

The Sendero in .300 WinMag is a fine rig. Along those lines, anybody have any idea why USRA stopped listing the Laredo?
