I saw one of these for sale in a short mag. It had really nice wood. But, the barrel looked more like a standard weight barrel than the usual pencil thin barrels typical for FWs. Does the gun really weight 7 pounds, as described in Winchester's specs? Are they good hunting rifles in the short mag setup?

For some unknown reason Winchester chose to chamber a few magnum's in the Featheweight stock. Both the WSM's and the traditional magnums will have a standard contour barrel, even when in the FWT stock. All of the standard caliber Featherweights will have the slightly thinner FWT barrel.

7lbs is probably pretty close. The Feathweights are not all that light by modern standards. A 30-06 is also listed at 7 lbs, which is exactly what mine would weigh in the factory stock. The WSM's have a longer, thicker barrel, but are built on a short action so the weight probably evens out.
