I just received my fathers s&w model 66 357, it there a good market for this
pistol as I don't need anything this powerful ?

Thanks N........

I'd hold on to the 66 if I were you. I picked one up recently, and shoot standard load .38's out of it. Almost no recoil, and incredibly accurate. You can run standard .38's, .38+p's, or .357's through the 66, making it a very versatile handgun.

I WOULD GIVE MY LEFT NUT TO HAVE A GUN MY DAD HAD.
That said I think that a good S&W 66 is not really a over powered gun if you shoot 38s in it. It is what many LEOs carried and will last a good long time with 158 gr LSWC 357s. I would keep it as a range gun/bedside gun.

If it is in good condition it would be worth about $325 + or - $75

shootin 38's

Like they said-keep it to shoot 38's and enjoy it. Lots of full power magnums will wear it out faster anyway. But you will still have the option in the future. And stainless guns are nice to have. But if you shoot many lead 38's out of it, you should scrub the chambers real well. Since the case is shorter than a 357, it might tend to build up a little lead behind the chamber throats, thus making it hard to chamber a 357 in the future. Get a set of the Uncle Mikes or other nice cushioned grips for it if it has wood. They don't cost much if they get beat up, and they cushion the recoil better, and might even fit your hand better if it has the big wood magna grips on it. I say a keeper!

Well, I'm going to hold on too my left (and right ) one; and as others have
said, "hold on too your dad's gun to". The S&W model 66 is still a very
desireable firearm in my area. I just recently picked up a used, but not
abused 2.5" model 66-4 for $225 OTD. Goes quite nicely with my
6" SMIF (ha-ha-ha :D) and Wesson 6" 686-5~!

Snub 66

Good buy on that one. Around here they have been at around 350 used, so I balked at that. Nowadays I am not seeing much stainless revolvers at the shows for some reason. Some blued K frames, with wear and pitting. Or worn out blueless junkers. Lots of autos and Kustom 45s though.

I have all my fathers pistols and I will pass them on to my children . I would never sell a gun that belonged to my father and I hope the guns I leave to my children they feel same way about.

My father don't have guns, the revolver he has now I gave to him. Be grateful you own a handgun your dad had. I own a S&W 66 in 2.5" with the finger grooved wood stock round butt. It is one nice piece of hardware and I have no plans in selling it and am hoping that one day not any time soon, I can pass it down with several of my guns to my 3 sons. josh
