Model 66-8

Do you know that milled parts will fit? There are design changes. Frex, the MIM guns have frame firing pins, the older milled guns have hammer nose firing pins.

All revolver parts require fitting by a smithy. However, there's nothing wrong with MIM parts. Ruger, a well known maker of very strong revolvers, built an entire company on investment cast parts. MIM produces a better surface finish than investment casting.

I have not had a part fail. I was just looking to purchase a bobbed hammer and noticed they are usually cnc parts. Wasn’t sure if the difference in material hardness would be an issue (harder steel continuesly moving against MIM parts) so I was looking into what it would take to replace the parts.

I am unaware if the parts would fit. Mainly because I don’t have a new part dealer or website to make that decision. Older SW parts maybe. Excluding the hammer.

You may want to visit the web site of Power Custom (Grand Masters LLC). They make machined triggers, cylinder bolts, and hammers for K, L and N frame S&W revolvers. Midway USA also stocks some of the Power Custom parts. I just replaced the hammer on my S&W model 24 with a wider target hammer. It had a hammer mounted firing pin.

I just dropped an Apex Evolution hammer in my 686-6 SSR. The hammer is stated to work with both K & L frames. I’m quite pleased with how it all turned out, particularly with the Wilson Combat spring kit that was already in it. The hammer itself took me maybe 15 minutes to install.

Good info. Any holster recommendations? I usually appendix carry my autos. Also the new 66 is a 2 3/4 inch barrel FYI.
