Model 62 Winch 22 Pump Need Scope Mount

The gun was drilled and tapped for a scope mount by the time my folks bought it (must have been in the late 40s at a guess)

I still need to get the spacing, but wondered if there was some standard or common setup that they did back in those days?

We would like to shoot it but we all have older bad eyes.

No damage to the value and fun for the family if we can figure out what went there originally.

More likely than not they will be Weaver bases. Check ebay for "Weaver El Paso" to hook up with a vintage scope for it.

Good luck.

A lot of people used #16 weaver bases for jobs like that. If so it will look near to 1/2 " between the holes....I can't remember the exact spacing. You might stop by a gun shop and see if they have some of those to try.

I definitely need to get the spacing.

Seems more like 2 inches. Fairly large screw so will get that as well..

I appreciate the suggestions but better get more data

The bases are normally secured with 6x48 screws, which you will only find in the gun business normally....your hardware store won't stock them. If you can post a picture it might be helpful.

If it comes to it, blank base stock is available from several sources. A gunsmith or machinist can easily customize to your rifle.

.

The base was most likely a Weaver; the exact base(s) would depend upon whether the rifle is D/T'd on top/center or on the side of the receiver and/or barrel.

Many ungrooved rimfire rifles were fitted with a Weaver side mount, either on the bbl or the receiver.

The Winchester 62 is a top-eject model, where the bolt actually lifts up, before sliding back to extract the case and cock the hammer.

The only real scope mounting options are barrel-mounted (and sitting high), or receiver side mount or saddle mount.

Weaver used to make a stamped sheet metal mount for it (side mount), and, more recently, B-Square made a saddle mount that would fit.
I can't find any information on what (if any) screws were intended to be used with either mount.
Weaver El Paso scopes were the preferred choice for glass, with the Weaver bases.
