They are all like that, I think there is no external tab as an "economy" measure. Which caliber do you have?
If you take the action out of the stock, be careful putting the mag box back in. If you don't get it fully seated into the bottom of the action (and keep it there), you can warp the nylon floorplate when you tighten the screws.
They are fine little carbines, a joy to carry, but not so pleasant to shoot in the heavier calibers. There's no free lunch. Mine have always been accurate enough for hunting, a couple of them have been surprisingly accurate until they get hot. Not a benchrest gun by any means, but a fine sporting rifle, especially in the woods.
