Model 60

I've been lookin for a J frame in nickel plate in any caliber for a long time. Not to carry, just to have.
So I wander into my local gun emporium the other day and there it was. Only it turns out to be a really high polished model 60 with stag grips and a bobbed hammer in .38 special. Now it's mine for $260. Probably too much, but I hadda have it. I'm gonna have a standard hammer put in.
Sorry to bore you all with this post.

Popeye,

Congrat's on your purchase of a S&W model 60.
Sounds like someone did a "custom job" since
it has a bobed hammer? I don't blame you one
bit for returning it to its original configuration, by installing a replacement
hammer. These little S&W stainless Chief's Specials should never have been dropped from
the Smith & Wesson line.

Hey Popeye, You did good!

I've had a Chief's Special for years. My father has an older one in .32 long.
The only complaint I've ever had about the gun is that my wife can shoot rings around me with a snubbie! (I'm really very proud!)

I would carry it for a while with that bobbed hammer before i replaced it. There are many modes of carry (belly band and pocket holster in particular) where the spur can be uncomfortable and dig into you even if it does not bother your draw.

I practice a lot of slow double action aimed fire and do not miss my hammer spurs at all! :D
