Just picked up a Smith model 60 chief special no dash .38 special.Nice gun only thing I'm not super happy with is the serrated trigger. The hammer and trigger are silver but dont look stainless like the rest of the gun.I was wondering if it is some kind of coating as I'm thinking about taking emery cloth to it to knock down some of the sharp edges.SN is 626xxx was also wondering when it was made.Any info is appreciated.

KR....not much info on S&W 60's today....If U saw my post..the hammer and probably the trigger too..will rust quite easily....

If that serial number is correct, your M60 was probably made in 1967 or 1968. Did you get the number from the bottom of the grip frame? Most of the Model 60s had an "R" prefix before the number.

The hammer and trigger are flash-chromed, which is generally a very durable finish (yours has lasted 45 years, right?). The hammer and trigger on these can be a bit abrasive to the fingers but that makes for a very sure grip and control.

You could take emery cloth to the trigger, but it would be more likely to rust. It might be better to replace the hammer and trigger with ones you like better.

thanks all for the info, yes I got the # from the bottom of the frame.I really like this old gun--puts bullets on top of the front sight at 7 yards.Pretty cool it was 'born'the approx same year as me

I bet it looks something like this. Great guns. Mine is an "R" prefix. Don't know what it means, but it is. Congrats on a nice gun.
