model 60 no dash issues

I picked up a Smith m-60 no dash pinned barrel recently. The double action triggers seems a little too stiff for a weapon this age, also I noticed that when I turn the cylinder by hand when the hammer is pulled partially back, it feels like it is not turning freely, almost like something is rubbing on it. I hope I am describing this accurately enough.

As mentioned have someone skilled in S&W revolvers check it out. A standard coil mainspring in this revolver would give a rather heavy DA pull and you may have the bolt stop dragging when the hammer is drawn back slightly. Normal in most cases but have your concerns presented to one who can check it out first hand.

when comparing this gun to my other Smith revolvers, the cylinder seems to be more resistant when turned with the hammer back. I am wondering if the ejector rod could be slightly off center.

It sounds to me that it needs to be completely torn down, thoroughly cleaned, and lubricated properly. I would clean it with gun scrubber or carb cleaner.

Swing out the cylinder, give 'er a spin, and see if it wobbles.

Either way, as others have stated, the gun needs a thorough cleaning - including all the internals.

I'd check under the extractor (star) to make sure there's no crud and use a toothbrush under there if needed. Also check the ejector rod to make sure it's not loose. Hopefully, it's not due to someone flipping the cylinder shut as seen on tv.

puppyface, as others have suggested, start with a good deep cleaning and make sure the ejector rod has not backed out. If the ejector rod needs to be tightened, remember it's a LEFT hand thread.

The cylinder was not meant to turn when the hammer is cocked for single action shooting.
