Model 12-2

Thinking about a used Model 12-2 deal I found, my question is what's the deal with a pinned barrel and secondlly, do these revolvers have any inhereant problems???
I plan to shoot either Ramington factory ammo or Keith SWC .38 special reloads, nothing hot. reloads are about 75% power loads that a buddy makes.
I never considered a alloy framed gun before and am naturally sorta cautious of it.
Thanks guys.

I have a 12-3 and love it! They are great light weight revolvers for CC and SD. I find I shoot my K framed model 12 Airweight much better and easier than my J framed Airweights due to the larger size and better trigger pull.

Pinned barrels are normal for the time period and as long as you use standard 38 spl loads it will last. +P powered loads a generally frowned on in these model 12's, but some people use them for carry. There was a fellow on the S&W forums that shot over 1,000 +P 38 spl loads through his model 12 while documenting it. At the end he reported no exesive wear or looseness, but I see no reason to gamble in a nice revolver that is not made anymore. To each his own!

Nice gun. I had one for some number of years. Used it as part of a trade for a Nickel M-59. The M-12 was light and handy and shot reasonably well.

I've got one that I use as my day to day carry gun now. I could never warm up to "J" frame sized guns, but the Aluminum frame Model 12 is "just right."

The first time I shot mine at the 7 yard range, two cylinder fulls of wadcutters, took the X ring out of the target, and left a ragged hole. (That was standing, two handed, double action.) They'll shoot.

I don't shoot a lot of P+ ammo period, but wouldn't worry too much about it.

I changed my mind cause I foound a Nickled Model 60 for $100 more! Had to get that little 2"!
