Model 100 Remington--anything better?

I have a neat little Remington model 1100, 20 gauge Youth Model. Put a slip-on pad on it due to it's short butt stock. 21" barrel and a smaller receiver than the standard. A real pleasure to carry and quick to handle.

I don't see how you could beat the model 1100, do you?

This is an attempt to acquaint myself with a shotgun that MIGHT be a little better--and, frankly, brag on my gun.

I imagine it's real pleasure to carry. But, with the short barrel it probably isn't as smooth swinging as a grown-up gun.

The Remington 1100 was a fine gun in its day, but many will say it's day has passed. The newer Beretta A390, 391 and 400 series guns have a more versatile gas system and they kick less.

I know you love your little 1100; but, if you're curious, check out one of the newer Beretta guns and decide for yourself. If you're not wed to a gas gun, then have a look at some of the new Benelli offerings, too.

Sound likes a nice upland gun. I suppose there may better, but if you like it, that's the main thing.

As Zippy mentioned, at this point in time, the 1100 is a rather dated design.

Back in the 60's and 70's, though, it was considered then to be a state of the art shotgun.

270 I am with you 100% i love my 1100..

A 68 GTO Judge is out dated as well but we would all love to have one..
I think the others are merely jealous:)

The 1100's are fine guns. I have a LT-20 that was my 1st "real" shotgun. Ive shot countless dove, quail ducks and skeet with in the last 30 years. The gas systems require more maintenance than more modern designs, but they have been getting the job done for about 50 years. The Berettas have them outnumbered on the sporting courses, but the 1100's still have a strong presence on the trap and skeet fields. As for them having more recoil than the newer guns, I disagree 100%. I have a Beretta 390 and 391, and IMO with the exact same loads my 1100's and 11-87's are softer shooting guns.

For the average shooter, the 1100 should be fine. I have noticed quite a few here in the very cold region, fail to cycle unless kept spotlessly clean. I am not a post WWII Remington fan myself. I have a member of our club that shoots thousands of rounds of trap every year. He shoots lots of Remingtons. As he states " If you are going to shoot Remingtons, you better have lots of spare parts on hand". I will let him be my guide as I prefer other models.

I'll probably get kicked around but I just have to bring up the old A5 Browning. I have put case upon case of ammo through them without any problem and have never noticed the recoil.

bhannah,
Not to be nit picky but you would be looking for quite awhile to find a '68 Judge. They didn't come out until '69;). BTW, love my 1100. So does my son who just turned 17. He got 50 straight and 73/75 for the 3 rounds. Blew me away!

Acquaint yourself with the Beretta 390 or 391. There's no "might" about it. They are not just a "little better" but a LOT better and I've owned a couple 1100s.

Better too are the Browning Golds, Benellis and Winchesters.

No sir, my Galaxie 500 convertable is a much nicer car. :) not a GM fan.

I also have the 391 and an 1100 and also a 11 87. I shoot best with the 1100 and 11 87, gave the 391 to my brother as it is too lite and I swing right on by the birds.

To each his own, try a lot, narrow it down and go for it.
