Model 10 "RHKP"

This is a "89" vintage "Royal Hong Kong Police" issue S&W Model 10. Except for a minor drag line, the finish is pristine. Surprisingly, the polish and bluing rivals my Model 27.

Hey Frenchy-the RHKPs are great, aren't they? That's a nice one you have. The Model 10s are just about the best revolver S&W made, as far as I am concerned. I carried a 4" taper barrel as my first sidearm when I started in law enforcement many years ago and it served me well and faithfully.

I also had an RHKP which I converted to DAO and 2" barrel.

As usual, I sold it. Wish I still had it.

Oh well....:(

Frenchy...

Nice pistol! Just one small question however. Supica and Nahas state that the RHKP model was produced "about 1983". How did you date yours to "89"? But whatever the date, it's sure pretty.

He does say "83" in the book FP, but I wonder if he didn't mean "from" 1983. Mine is a 10-9 with a prefix of BEU. It also has a high inventory number simular to that one on page 128.

I was over at a local gun store this PM. The owner apparently received an estate of 40 handguns for consignment sale. He had several Model 10s, including a 6" taper barrel, an M&P 5" and an RHKP 4"-all three were very cool, with the 6" in really nice shape. The RHKP seemed mechanically sound, but was a little rough on the outside-certainly not as nice as the one Frenchy is showing.

There was also a 4" .32 long-quite old with bakelite round butt grips which was nickel-plated by the owner. And also a really nice Model 29 6".

Most of the revolvers were $250-350. The Model 29 was $450 and worth it.

My wife had to threaten me with the stun gun to get me outta there!!!!

A friend of mine has an RHKP-marked Victory Model in .380-200.

Supposed to be fairly rare, as the RHKP was using British revolvers, Enfields and Webleys, in that caliber.

That is certainly possible. Even S&N state that there are errors and gaps in serial number ranges and special orders.

In any case, you STILL have a great gun!

You are fortunate to find one of these Hong Kong surplus guns in such nice condition. Most that I've seen were "rode hard and put away wet."

Evidently, the police there didn't stress weapon maintenance much...

Also have seen a couple that just weren't the best finished S&W's I've seen. Apparently, quality control varied with the production date.

When well made, the old M&P (Model 10) is a very solid service revolver, and deserves to be probably the most widely used revolver of all time.
