has anyone here had any experence with this model of winchester, i've got some pre-64 30-30's that shoot great. i just don't know that much about the mod. 88, it seems to be a very nice solid lever action, and very nice bright blueing.

I have some expeince with a .243 model. Dad's post '64 has stamped checkering, and a few other signs of cost cutting. Pre '64s in good shape tend to be worth the extra bucks.

It is basically a lever operated bolt. It is strong action that can handle modern spitzers, but it is also a loooong heavy action. Lots of metal has to move for a dent in the primer to happen. Opinions on triger pull and lock time vary from ok to not so great. Never heard anyone call it great.

It is ok to sling over the shoulder, but if you carry hands on in the brush it tends to get a little nose heavy as the day wears on.

thanks tom for the good info, i saw in your profile you have a intrest in harley's, i've got a 98' standard FLHT, i do the sturgis thing every year and i do ride mine there. thanks again

Mine is a .308 and is quite accurate. Extra magazines are usually around at gun shows and Brownells carry a replacement made on the original tooling that seems to work fine. Rob
