I have a M29 SW .44 8 3/8 B SB RRS serial number CBA8XXX

I'd like to find the year of manufacture and value.

Perfect shape, fired a dozen times or so in the original blue box with papers.

Thanks

The book says CBA prefix guns were produced in SEP 96. So that makes it pre-ILS anyway.

Valuation is determined by where you live and where you are willing to sell it. The longer barrels are generally harder to sell and don't bring as much money. Any N frame that is pre-ILS is going for some decent money today. Check out gunbroker completed auctions for some ideas. You have to figure out dealing with shipping and maybe FFL's and all that but it can be worth it since you then have a national audience.

Looks to me like $650-$750 is a reasonable range.

Would you kindly explain what "ILS" is? I have a handful of Smith & Wessons and would like to know what to look for. A few of mine are pinned and recessed.

Thanks in advance.

ILS refers to the internal lock mechanism that was introduced in the 2001-2002 period. The external indication that a revolver has the lock is a round keyhole on the left side above the cylinder release. As you probably know, pinned barrels were dropped around 1982, as were recessed chambers (except for rimfires), so obviously no P&R revolver can have an ILS.

Thanks. Knew about the locks, just not familar with the term "ILS."

Thanks for the education. You must teach an old dog new tricks. Since joining this forum I've learned a gun is now a "platform." Now ILS. What's next?

I know the people on the Ruger Forums usually just call it "the lock" but over on the S&W Forums, "ILS" is the common shorthand. Since we were talking about a S&W, I just naturally went with that lingo. And that's what is in the Supica/Nahas book.
