I'm considering a purchase as a deer hunting pistol.

Does anyone own an MOA Maximum pistol? Pros? Cons?
I've heard some talk on a very old forum about issues with case extraction with reloads/lead bullets. I will be using factory loaded 308 caliber rifle ammo only. Any opinions apprecited. Any current owners with photos also appreciated. I hear they are tack drivers with a loyal following. Thanks.

They ain't cheap, or fast, but the MOA is a great pistol for those who are in that niche. The 308 is a great choice, it'd suit you well.

Thanks OkieCruffler. This is a very unique pistol and something I feel I'd keep for the rest of my life. Do you own one? Does anyone here own one? If so, I'd love to hear your opinions and/or photos. Thanks!

The website,,,

Here's the link to the MOA website,,,

It's kind of like a Retro Contender,,,
Falling Block instead of Break-Open action.

I Like It!

Can't justify $900 + for a single-shot handgun,,,
But that doesn't stop me from drooling over it a bit.

I like single-shots a lot.

I wish someone made an inexpensive one in .22 LR,,,
I would buy two for plinking with friends.

I have one.Mine is a .260 Rem.I get about 2600 with a 120 gr Ballistic tip.I use RE 15.
I have not grouped it for a while, but it was good for quarter to nickle size groups bench and bag.I only had a 4x Leupold in it,and I'm not all that great a shot.

You can safely carry a round chambered. The safety moves a transfer block between the hammer and firing pin. They have a good trigger.I have upon occasion had the extractor slip over the rim. What I had a mind to do is neck down .307 Win brass and slightly modify the breech.I have not touched it,though.I have the original scope base.
MOA is still going,I believe they moved from Ohio to Wyo.
These handguns are set up to easily interchange barrels. They thread in,but there is an index dowel.
\Mine has not been fired a whole lot, maybe 300 rounds or so.I used to be able to get multiple antelope tags, but now one tag takes three years.I don't really use it.
I'm looking for ways to help my daughter come up with a down payment on a house for my grandkids.Selling a few toys works for me.
PM me,we can talk.

I just spoke to the gentleman at the MOA company, and mentioned my occasional failure to extract. He said send it to him,he will make it right .
I always like it when folks stand behind their stuff.

Reloading for the MOA is not a problem. Cast bullets can be a problem if the chamber is not kept clean of if you are shooting a case with little or no taper. Since this gun has an extractor and not an ejector you must remember to keep the muzzle pointed up to aid in extraction. I am down to four MOA's in my collection. All are extremely accutate, strong and reliable. I even managed to win two categories at the 2009 MOA Cold Turkey shoot in Sundance Wyoming. Maybe you can ease out there this year and have some fun. http://home.comcast.net/~MOA_Shooters/MOASHOOTERSB.htm

I ordered one at a Shot Show sometime in the early 1990's, price was a little cheaper then....ordered it with a 7-08 comp barrel and a 223 barrel. I have never used the 223 but have shot quite a few deer with the 7-08 in the Texas hill country. This thing is awesome! Made an avg shooter like me look really good! I did have a Burris 2-7x scope on it. Had not fired it since '95 and took it out two months ago for a few rounds....other than me being a lot older and having trouble keeping it still, it shot dead on......extremely accurate. :)

and a bit more info

I just placed an order thru my dealer on a new MOA.

For a very accurate gun like we all love, rifle or pistol, the MOA has a trigger pull to die for! Crisp, clean and adjustable to UNDER a lb without a gunsmith!! That ALONE is a reason to buy one.

Barrel length? Take your pic. Caliber? Take your pic, wildcat or not.

Quality? Chambers so tight Rich recommends FULL LENGTH resizing. Douglass moly or SS barrel, your choice.

It redefines CUSTOM in a handgun. Not a "upgrade" of another companies gun but one built for long range accuracy from the ground up.

Yeah, lots of money ( but like you, mine will be for the rest of my life) but buy an XP and have all the custom work done on barrel replacement and trigger then add up the total. OUCH. Super guns in their own right but costly as well!

specialtypistols.com has a lot of info on them, lots of guys using them and youll see photos of some that will redefine what you think of a "handgun". If you go to the forums there and down to the "falling block" section, youll see a post of several photos.

Mine?

16 inch SS bull barrel with brake, bench rest forearm, Rich's MOA scope base in 6.5-284. Fast is a relative term to each shooter.

This caliber out of a barrel this length puts a 130 grain VLD over 1800 fps (Walt Bergers minimum for expansion) and over half ton of energy to JUST short of 500 yards.

Plenty fast for this ol cat and doubt the deer will notice at my max of 300 yards. :)

They are in their own universe on long range accuracy accompanied only by other customs, mostly bolt action.

Mine will of course be for ONLY longer range work which I set up for (fewer to NO hunters where I sit up for such). This type is NOT light and strictly a "bench" gun from a solid rest in a stand or prone.

Look out deer.........here I come!!

....just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the info. I just ordered one with 10" barrel for deer hunting in hardwoods and hills near my home. Can't wait to get it!

The local pawn shop has one in 30-06 I think. Too large for a handgun, I'd just as soon carry a rifle,I think. YMMV though. I hate to think of shooting one of these hand cannons in -06 though. Makes my hand hurt just thinking about it.

Used MOA pistol........

I bought a used one on Gunbroker. It came with 4 barrels. 250 Savage, 223, 6x47 and a 6.5 TCU. Barrels are easily changed and all are very accurate. I use the 6.5 TCU mostly, shooting pistol silhouette.

I also have a couple of EABCO BF pistols which are very nice, accurate with super nice triggers. These are a little cheaper if you get the "standard pistol". And they might have one in stock, ready to ship.:D Have fun shooting.:)
