Some will recall I got a pair a while back. Opinion was that they were worth the 85- 90$ but seemed a bit open in the grain department. Here's what I did: 1. Filled the open grain with Birchwood casey sealer and filler. they say to lay this on thick and let it dry then sand down. So, I did. this extremly viscous stuff takes about three days to dry and then much of it had to be carded off. Nevertheless- success. Then apply several thin coats of Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil- I always do this by hand. Put one very light treatment on the checkering using a toothbrush and several on the other parts. this two worked. then buff the thing over with their sheen finishing compound to even out inperfections and kill some of the shine.
Now it looks about as good as their advertising pictures and is suitable proxy for an early set of Smith Target Grips if you cant find them:
