The media is hot and we haven't even done anything yet! The campaign to stop the Avon Wal-Mart from selling guns, when they open on Jan. 24, has been covered by the Hartford Courant (Tuesday), Channel 30 (Tuesday) and Channel 3 (Thursday). We met last night at Maria's home in Avon (Channel 3 was there) and finalized our first public demonstration in front of the Wal-Mart Avon (on Rt. 44 at the site of the old Caldor's) on Saturday, January 20 at 1:00 PM. The group will continue to hold demonstrations in front of the store until they give the community what it wants, no guns at the Avon Wal-Mart!

Wal-Mart is a family-oriented store and it should not sell guns alongside everyday items like Little League bats and baby bottles. It is scandalous to casually expose children to a large display of firearms while shopping with their families. Guns should be sold in retail stores dedicated to providing the public with a well trained staff and tightly secured store.

You can also let Wal-Mart know you don't want them to sell guns in Avon, CT by contacting Reach Lee Scott, CEO by:
1. EMAIL http://www.walmart.com
2. PHONE 800-925-6278. Press option #1, then option #4 (do not press the pound key unless you want to hear a pre-recorded message supporting their sale of guns). Stay on hold and you will have an opportunity to speak with a representative of Scott's office.

If you would like a petition to circulate please contact me I will be sure to get one to you. We need you there on Saturday, January 20 at 1:00 PM! Bring your friends, family, kids, bring signs; we must show Wal-Mart that Avon and it's surrounding communities do not want a family-oriented department store selling guns. Thanks for your support,

As you know, citizens are organizing to stop the Avon Wal-Mart from selling guns in their store which is opening up on January 24. We will have big demonstration on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1 PM and I will have news for you tomorrow.

If you are available tomorrow (Friday 1/12) at 12:30 PM to show up at the Avon Wal-Mart, please come. The Avon newspaper will be there for a photograph and we need as many people to show up as possible. Please come, bring family, friends and children for a quick photo.

MMM vs Walmart, Please make that call

I would hope a group of Pro-Gun counter protesters will be on hand.
If this was in MY back yard, I would be there.

PLEASE take the time to call Walmart, and let them know we support their right to sell a legal product.
I have, they are very courteous, and seem to, at this time,
have no plans to discontinue gun sales.
I told them I was a Sams member, (Walmart's club stores)
as there is no Walmart in my town, but in the future, I would quit buying there if they decided to give in to the MMM.
The person I spoke to said that they had no intention of changing their business plans.
BUT, in this PC climate, now would be a great time to make that call. Walmart, 1-800-925-6278

Right now, the Wal-Mart down the street is the only place that has the balls to sell Shotgun News.
 
Any counter Demonstration?

A similar group tried this at a LI K Mart last year. Check this site for photos and an article on our counter demonstration:

They can be turned back, the K mart in the above link is still selling guns.

Name the time and place and I will be there, I am a member of the Connecticut Travellers club, and I have a big mouth:)

Cmon CT, get with the program! Who is going to organize this, CT must have a pro RKBA organization?

I like demonstrations, they are fun! I am sorry I missed out during the 60's when I was trying to go to college.

If you call or write these people, remind them that we WARNED them that this would be what would happen if they caved in on the protest of sales at the new store in Tampa, FL http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=29238 . They caved and this is what they get for that concession. Also send them a copy of the ecstasy note:

I dont live there... :( But it would be great to set up a counter protest by getting everyone you can to walk past those MM and buy guns and ammo.... Then walk past them again with a smile..... Money talks!
 
The MMM hate it when you show up to counter-protest them. Guys, make sure to bring your wives, girlfriends and daughters with you. Don't let them get away with their obviously made-up statistics. Be emphatic, but be polite. We ended up helping them load their chairs into their cars after the demonstration in Dallas.

Go Wal Mart

I saw the local news tonight. Typical MMM rhetoric about guns not belonging in society, they're evil and WalMart should not have them for sale, etc.,etc., etc.
What really impressed me however was the statement from the WalMart spokesperson read by the reporter, and I paraphrase:
WalMart fully intends to sell firearms in its Avon location. The spokesperson further stated the decision to carry a product, (firearms), is based upon market research and sales data from the area and not the opinion of a "VOCAL MINORITY". They further stated the decision to carry firearms was based upon the number of Hunting Licences sold in the area and the success of firearm and ammunition sales in the other WalMarts in Conn.
I'm a little strapped for cash right now but I hope to scrape together enough to purchase a .22 rifle even though I don't need one, (Did I just commit blasphemy?) from the Avon WalMart this weekend.
If I run into any MMM on the way out I'll remind them the same Bill of Rights that guarantees their right to peacefully assemble also guarantees my right to keep and bear arms, purchased from WalMart.
If anyone's interested I'll post the outcome this weekend.
