Gun Control Advocates: Thugs And Tyrants Among Us
by Marc Solomon
September 28, 2000
Item: In Fort Collins Colorado, the Million Mom Marchers advertised in the local newspaper a meeting of theirs to take place in a Church featuring a speech given by Tom Mauser, whose son was killed in the Columbine massacre. When gun rights activists, known as the Tyranny Response Team (http://www.trteam.com), showed up to attend the meeting, there was a guard posted at the door who attempted to prevent them from entering the Church. The guard even went to the trouble of calling the police to help him prevent the gun rights activists from attending the meeting. Only problem was when the cops showed up, they did indeed ask the gun rights activists to leave, but admitted that legally they couldn't do anything to stop the TRT from attending the meeting, and had to allow the TRT members to go in. During the meeting, one of the "Mom's", Cherie Trine, approached the TRT members, screaming at them, "We need your names. You have to sign in." One of the TRT members was videotaping and Trine swung her clipboard, smashing it into the video camera, pushing it into the mans eye and causing an injury. About a week later, Trine was cited for third degree assault, a class 1 misdemeanor. Class 1 misdemeanors are punishable by between 6 & 18 months in jail and a fine of $500 - $5,000, according to CO Revised Statutes.
Item: At another MMM meeting, a 10 year old TRT member is handing out free copies of the Constitution of the United States, one of the MMMer's, grabs one from the kid and promptly tears it in half.
Item: In St. Louis, a male MMMarcher notices an NRA commercial being run on the AT&T Cable Systems cable access station. He calls the AT&T company to complain and AT&T pulls the commercial, claiming they don't want to "offend" the Million mom Marcher's. The male marcher in question also claimed that AT&T put him in touch with their informercial supplier GRTV in California, one of the largest suppliers of infomercials to cable stations. He claimed that GRTV "agreed to stop airing the infomercial and to not renew their contract with the NRA." (However, when GRTV was contacted by gun rights activists, they said that it wasn't true. That it was the NRA's decision not to renew the contract, and that GRTV would be quite happy to continue doing business with the NRA.)
Item: In Philadelphia, Independence Mall, in the shadow of the Liberty Bell, during the pre-Republican Convention weekend, a pro-gun rights known as the Second Amendment Sisters (http://www.sas-aim.org) began to set up their display. Including a table of books, pamphlets and other Second Amendment Sisters-related materials. Second Amendment Sisters spokesperson Maria Heil and other SAS members were away for a few moments getting more display materials on the other side of Independence Park. It was that moment the "Million Moms" chose to strike. When Maria returned, the table was completely bare, save for their American flags that had Million Mom March buttons pinned to them. Maria and members of the Independence National Park Police went looking for the materials, finally finding them inside a park garbage can about a block away. Luckily, the garbage can had been lined with a brand new plastic garbage bag and there was no trash in it. The printed materials were completely unsoiled.
Item: At Washington DC, during the famous Million Mom March, many instances are reported of Million Mom Marchers approaching gun rights activists and threatening physical violence and openly cursing in the presence of children. One making the shape of guns with his hand, pointed at his own head, and suggested "You love guns so much, just kill yourselves, go ahead and kill yourselves".
What is wrong with this picture? Aside from the obvious, nothing because these are the true actions of tyrants. But why do they act like this?
Because gun control doesn't work. It doesn't save lives or reduces crime. Quite the contrary. Gun control has been proven to have the opposite effect. Simply put, reducing the freedoms of the people does not work as a crime control tool. It gives both the criminals and potential tyrants a leg up on the law abiding.
When one is a gun control advocate, and your opinion is a proven failure, what is one to do? Well, if you're honest, you admit your mistakes and try the opposite effect. But, if you're not so honest, you go on making the same arguments, telling stories, twisting statistics, that you know perfectly well to be false.
The arguments in favor of gun control cannot be supported with logic and truth. As a result, freedom of speech poses a threat to such lies, which is why the gun control advocates cannot afford having their opinions challenged by anyone and exposed to the light of day. It is why they attempt to suppress opposing opinions everywhere they go. (While at the same time falsely and hypocritically accusing the gun law opponents of the exact type of behavior.)
Suppression of any opposing viewpoints, resorting to lies and deceit, is the only way they can get their anti-freedom agenda enacted. It is why they attempt to have NRA commercials pulled from the airwaves. It is why they ransack the SAS table of all printed material and vandalize the American flag. It is why they rip a copy of the Constitution in half. It is why they lie about GRTV not wanting to do business with the NRA. It is why they physically assault people. It is why they threaten physical violence. It is why they attempt to keep members of the public from attending public meetings. It is why they lie about the real size of the crowd that attended their march: (http://www.FreeRepublic.com/forum/a391f959078aa.htm)
It only goes to show that those who do not respect our gun rights, will not respect any of our other freedoms.
