MMM and tax exempt status

I finally got a response from the IRS about status requirement for MMM. According to IRS Publication 557 Section 501(c)3 organizations are precluded from, and suffer loss of exemption for engaging in any political campaign on behalf of, or in opposition to, any candidate for public office! CALL, quote the publication and ask WHEN and IF they're going to do something about it! Loss of exempt status means all dollars are taxable, all donors receive no write off for donations and one hell of an accounting mess + time. If Donna is tied up maybe she won't have time to do other things!

Coineach, sorry to take exception. If they have been operating under the 501(c)3 exception ANY action while under that is in question. So up until March (the time of their largest fundraising) they have operated illegally and should be held responsible> that's what I am trying to have happen. Millions in donations to be taxed, possible fines (which will be even more expensive than the taxes). Keep pushing the buttons! I well know their trying to cover their but*s but it's too late if we keep the pressure on. The amazing thing for me is that the Clinton's best left a hole this big!

sumabich if correct. The time that they received the donations they were running as a tax exempt corp. The taxing period runs at the time the funds were received.

What the IRS did not mention in the above is the fact that any political activity is cause to loose their tax exempt status. Ie... if they lobby congress for a specific law. That is why the NRA has several divisions. Each division is a different corporation. One for the endowment fund, one for legislative activities. Donations to the NRA legislative actions are not tax deductable.

The fact that they were marching to infuence congress to pass more gun control laws is a form of lobbying and should cause them to loose any tax exempt status.

There are a lot of gun clubs out there that the IRS has tried to take away (and have some) their tax exempt status, just because the members discussed political issues at their meetings.

The debate is not about guns,
but rather who has the ultimate power to rule,
the People or Government.
RKBA!

OK, so the Morons broke the law. I'll bet my AR against an AK that not a got-damn thing happens to them.

Any takers?

I won't bet anything on this one! you're right but that's still not gonna stop me from exercising my rights (while I still have them) and keep pushing the button. I appreciate everyone's effort on this one.

Hell no! Not taking that bet. Hubby would have my head if I lost his AK. Not to mention that I'd loose one of my favorite toys. ;)

With the way things go, MMM will not only get away with what they've already done, they'll probably get their 501(c)3 status back within the year.

Sumabitch is right. We have friends in Congress that might be persuaded to push this. I have my doubts too - but it can't hurt to try!

What about a letter righting campaign to the CFO's of all those companies that are taking a tax write off for their donations to the MMM?

on the freerepublic there is a post about the pallets of donated bumper stickers & posters that were abandoned after the rally...
