MKE brass?

Hello all
I have a bunch of MKE Zq1 7.62x51 ammo. My intention is to begin using those cases for loading my .308 ammo.

How is the brass quality? I understand it's NATO brass and the primers will likely need to be decrimped and the cases are likely a bit thicker than 308 win cases so I may have to start on the low side.

Any suggestions?
 
I am not familiar with that brand, but I have loaded plenty of 7.62 for my .308. The primers will be harder to remove, but not to the extent that it would be a problem. Most of my trouble had come from trying to resize 7.62 that was shot in machine guns. If you are shooting the factory ammo in your gun, that will not be an issue.

You should be safe starting at the .308 base loads, but it may be safer to start 10% low and work up.
 
Never used it. Brass is reported to be reloadable though, so let us know how it works out for you.

Turkish. NATO spec. Look inside an empty: one flash hole means boxer primed, good to reload. It anything else inside, toss them.
 
i guess i should have mentioned i already knew they were boxer primed.

my questions are mainly how hard will it be to get the primers out? and are they good quality cases?
 
The ones I've used have a primer crimp. Just a little harder to de-prime. Press out the crimp with a swagger or cut out with a chamfer tool.
 
I just picked up 400rds of ZQ1 (MKE headstamp) 7.62x51 aka .308 Win from Walmart this morning. With a credit I had form their "Savings Catcher" program it cost me $99 and change for all 400 rds :D :D (Retail was $9.97 per box of 20)

Any reports yet on how this brass reloads ? Sorry for the thread necrophilia - but I noticed that this question has been asked and not responded to.

I've loaded a few rounds of MKE. I have about 20 that I load with my other NATO spec .308. It seems to shoot like LC or WCC and I do reduce the charge by a grain(ish) from commercial .308 brass. I have 3 loading in them with no culled cases.

I also bought the cheap ZQ1 ammo to break in a a new rifle. The ammo was terribly inaccurate; however, the brass reloaded extremely well. I seated the new bullet .1" off the rifling and was throwing .75moa, reloaded again and repeated. So I conclude that the ammo is crap but the brass is great. Yeah, the crimp needs removing, but only the first time, just like LC brass. ;)
