Mk II 22/45 durability

Does anyone ever have to replace any parts on this pistol? I have consumed over 30 bricks (that's 15,000 rounds!) on this gun over the last 2 yrs and it's still going strong. If I were to guess, the firing pin spring would probably needs to be replaced sometime but has anyone actually seen anything break on their Mk II's and if so after how many rounds?

After I had about 15,000 rounds on my MKII, I asked Ruger whether there were any parts that should be replaced on a regular basis. Ruger said no, though it did recommend a factory inspection after about 50,000 to 60,000 rounds.

CZphile.....15,000 rounds is just a walk in the park for the sturdy Ruger. My shooting partner has a pre Mark I that has wore out two previous owners. Shoot Safe....CO

That's good to know. You know, as much as I love my CZ, I also enjoy "plinking" away with 22LRs; knowing that it won't burn a hole in my wallet...

CZphile, You owe it to your CZ to get a Kadet conversion kit!! Have the best of both worlds!! :D Northeast Firearms http://www.northeastfirearms.com/ have them for $189 plus shipping and spare mags are $29! I ordered mine last wednesday :)

As for the Ruger MkII I've put over 20,000 rounds through one and close to 30,000 rounds through a MkI with no problems whatsoever and wish I still had them. Had to let them go when money got tight.

Slowly but surely building my collection of guns back up. Thinking of getting a 22/45 when I can afford another gun. It will be my first venture into the polymer world. I would like to hear others that have the 22/45 (not the MkII) as far as durability, they've been out for awhile now..

I quit counting the rounds through my 22/45 at 30,000. So far, everything is still nice and tight and original. I filed strip it every time I shoot it for cleaning, and was worried about wear on the polymer part that holds the barrel/reciever to the frame. So far it's held up 100%. I also have a Mark II "slabside" that has 5,000 rounds or so through it. The Mark II has a broken firing pin spring that needs replaced. Ruger .22's are dump truck tough.

Bandit...I had the Ruger before the CZ but I may still purchae the Kadet conversion kit in the future. My only "concern" is that it MIGHT looseen up the original slide/frame fit.
Also, so far I have been very happy with it. The only minor gripe that I have is that you can't replace the grip panels. Yes you can put a Hogue Handall on it but then you'll have to remove it again before you can detail strip it.

RAE...I have to confess that even though I clean the Ruger after every 500 rounds or so I did it w/o the detail strip, ie I would clean the barrel from the muzzle side, while being very careful not to damage the crown, etc. Soon though, I will attempt to do it.
BTW, is the firing pin spring replacement a DIY project?

CZPhile: From what I've heard from other owners of the Kadet kit. There is an adapter that you fit to the frame that engages the stock frame rails and the action for the 22 rides on the adater rails not the stock rails. So, if you only file on the slide adapter to make it fit the stock rails there will be no wear and tear on them at all.

Yeah, not being able to change the grips on the 22/45 is a detractor. I'm mainly wanting one because they are supposed to closely match the grip angle and feel of a 1911. If it gets slippery you could always use skateboarder tape which works rather well without adding too much width to the grip and also not cover up the takedown latch.

Thanks for the info on the conversion kit. That's good news.
With regards to using skateboarding tape, will it leave behind a gluey mess should I want to remove it later?
Let us know how you like the Kadet conversion kit after you've got it. Have fun and safe shooting..

Yeah it will leave a glue residue behind but is easily cleaned off with solvent. I'm anxious to get the kit and go do some shooting with it. I have over 10,000 rounds of 22lr that was issued to me when shooting for a Bullseye team that I never used up. Heh and me without a 22.. well not for long =) Will letcha know how it goes.

For those of you complaining about the non-replacable grips on the 22/45, there is a solution. During my Ruger related web surfings I occasionally stumble across a web sight where the company offers a modification to the ruger grip. They mill the sides of the grips down so that the 22/45 will then accept any grips that will fit a stock 1911 pistol. I cannot remember the company's name but will post it should I be able to find it again. In the mean time, you may want to try searching for sites specializing in Ruger grips on your favorite search engines.

Also, all Ruger MKII and 22/45 owners should go to www.ontargetguns.com and order their trigger shield. It is inexpensive and does exactly as they claim. I purchased one over a year ago and it is by far the best accessory I have purchased for my MKII. A close second would be the extended magazine release that they sell.

Good luck.

Oh, BTW, my local range has a MKII rental gun that the range master estimates has had close to 250,000 rounds through it without a single problem.

Good shooting.

Check out the 22world forums. The members are great and very informative.

Ditto on the trigger shield. Keeps all the gunk out of the grip frame. Wish I had gotten one long ago, when my pistol was clean and new.

You guys have aroused my interest in the trigger shield and I went to the ontarget website only to discover that it won't fit the 22/45s.. :(
