Mitchell's Mausers

I'm thinking about buying one of the Mausers Mitchell is selling seen in most gun mags. Is 295.00 a good price for these Mausers? Has anyone ever bought one of these Mausers? If so, how do they look, are they in great shape, and how do they shoot? Thanks for your help!

They are nice, but not $295 nice. Look around at some of the other C&R dealers, like Century, SOG, etc. You'll likely find an "unissued" M-48 for under $200 with all of the accessories.

I purchased one via http://www.gunbroker.com for $120 that is absolutely perfect and appears to have never been shot.

All of these rifles, including the ones from Mitchell's, are covered in cosmoline, so you will have a little work ahead of you until the rifle reveals its true character.

All in all, it is worth it. They look great, and shoot accurately and reliably.

I agree with Noban. I was at a gunshow this weekend checking out some old mausers. The Yugo M48 rifles can be had in excellent to unissued condition for a lot less that $300. They are reported to be excellent shooters -- 8mm Mauser is often compared to .30-06 in terms of power and ballistics.

AIM has them in Very Good condition for $109.95 with bayonet and goodies included. The one I got last fall turned out to be near excellent after cleaning off the cosmolene: a few dings on the wood but great bore and the bluing on the receiver showed no wear where the bolt body and lugs ride. Your luck may vary, of course, but you'll end up with a great shooter. Unless you don't mind paying a premium for "unissued", these are the way to go...
