Mitchell 22 pistol questions

Anyone familiar with this pistol?

I'm looking at buying a used Mitchell high standard CitationII in 90% condition, stainless with 2 ten round mags $220.00 . I already own a Ruger mk4 which I love, just feel the need for another .22 plinker.

Question being, is the Mitchell worth the extra money (double what I paid for the ruger) or should I forget it and buy another ruger variation. FWIW, I'm not big on the bull barrel rugers, while they may be more accurate, the balance and the light weight of my mk4 seems to suit me best.

Thanks in advance for any feedback,
Dave

Kinda ugly gun... One for sale at gunbroker.com for $350-400.

I would want to know a lot more about the company. Are these knock-off's of established models?

Here is the web site for Mitchell Arms. It's "under construction". http://www.mitchellsales.com/

Here is your source for more magazines:

I would personally either get another Ruger or buy a known target model like a Benelli or such. Another choice would be to go to http://www.sportables.com and buy a custom Mark-II. Buying either Ruger would let you use the same magazines...

ps: Everybody: Download Copernic from http://www.copernic.com
This is one of my favorite programs and will let you find anything on the web. When you do a "search" you are only searching less than 10% of the web!

Mitchells need lots of work. I moved the feed ramp forward quite a bit, loctited the rear sight, etc. . By the time I got it 100% the firing pin broke and the red base broke off the mag...which if I remember held 11. If you enjoy the frustration , go for it!

I purchased a Mitchell copy of a High Standard Victor, thinking I'd save wear & tear on my old Hamden High Standard Victor. I've got to concurr with anothergene, my Mitchell needed quite a bit of work. Short of fabricating many parts yourself, you'll not end up with a pistol which will match either the mechanical or the shooting quality of the old High Standards. Generally, the Mitchell was made of softer materials, and not fitted at the factory with anywhere near the attention that the old High Standards recieved.

Suffice it to say that I sold this pistol at a loss, and purchased a spare (Hamden) High Standard. FWIW, most of the current production High Standards do not, in my opinion, come close to the quality of the pistols produced between say 1935 & 1970 either.

Sounds like the Mitchell is definetly not the way to go, glad I posted before buying it. Semms like it's pretty hard to beat a ruger MarkII, Hmmmmm Browing Buckmark perhaps?

Go to the thread on May 4th. Those who have owned 3-4 brands of these most all liked the Ruger. Too bad they are so ugly, but I'm going to get a Ruger as well. I wish Sportables.com made one that was only $75 more than a factory job.
