Mitchell 1911 Question

About 4 years ago I purchased a Mitchell "Gold Series" SS 1911.
This pistol has an 8 round magazine, with front and rear serration
on the slide, ambidextrous safety and adjustable rear sight.
I was told that Mitchell only produced 500 of these pistols before
the Fed's closed them down(Taxes I heard?) I've only fired about
150 rounds with it but there was no problems, the pistol performed a
lot better than me. Does anyone else here on TFL own one of
these and if so what is your opinion on the Mitchell?

Mtcell Arms were closed down becuase of the owner. He is now in jail i beive serving time. He would go to diffrent groups and borrow money and never repay them.
Oh well that is my 2 cents.

Can anyone add any more to this post?
One of these SS Mitchell 1911s has been sitting at my regular gunshop for quite a while now and I'm kind of curious about it.
How does this gun measure up against other 1911s and is the "only 500 made" story true?
It LOOKS like a decent gun and I believe the price is pretty reasonable (don't remember exact figure)

Good gun, the frames and slides were made by Caspian. I don't know that it has much of a collector following like the Randall seems to so it would be a good shooter. He sure has a CUTE daughter.

thestallion,
I had a neighbor that worked at the Mitchell, Santa Ana Plant, one evening at a home owners meeting I mentioned to her that I had purchased this pistol and she said "you know, we only produced 500 of those pistols". That was shortly before the plant closed. She has since moved away and Mitchell is no longer in business so I have no idea how to substantiate this 500 number.

I found one of the Mitchells NIB at a gun store in Enid Ok last summer. I bought it and shoot mine on a regular basis. Mine is a SS Gold Cup. Another dealer told me that unfired in the box it was worth between $1300 and $1500, fired it is worth about $800.It is a good shooter and I had the trigger tuned by a gunsmith. Congradulations you have found a piece that is not only a fine gun, but possibly a collector item.

Thanks for the info so far. If that pricing is right, I won't DARE to tell what the one I saw is priced at......
Regardless, I may just pick it up next time I'm there if it hasn't sold. 'Bout time I got myself a 1911 :D
