Missed opportunity!!!

Over the years I have found some of my best deals through the local newspaper want ads. It has been a habit of checking the ads first thing in the morning. Today I didn't do that. Sat down with the paper at lunch time, went straight to the want-ads, and there it was; new ad, Colt Python, snub nosed, $495. Not a misprint - $495. He also had listed a Dan Wesson, 357 mag. pistol pack, 3 barrels, $500. Couldn't dial fast enough, even though I knew it would be too late. Very nice gentleman said he had sold both before 8am. Tomorrow morning, I will be back in the habit of checking the ads first thing. Anyone else chase the paper ads?

I scored a NIB Marlin 336 30-30 that a guy had bought for his grandson when a kid but when he grew up he wasn't into guns so it had been sitting there unfired for 10 years or so... nice price too.

I also got a really nice nice milled-receiver MAK90 through an ad.

We have the Nickel Online and of course Craigslist. Check them both often. Have got some decent deals. There's a lot so-so deals also. Just the other day a guy had two fair condition Turk Mausers (8mm). Wanted $150 each. I just couldn't do it.

I don't even bother with newspaper ads anymore.

There seems to be so many other, cheaper more efficient ways to sell things on-line today the classified ads are becoming dinosaurs.

I DO remember though in my home town in my youth that if you put something really nice, like a firearm or motorcycle or car in the classifieds you'd start getting calls before the paper even came out...the ad department or printers were poaching their own ads. I remember the newspaper saying they were going to do something about it but (shrug) unless the buyer turns in his informant from the paper (and that would be pretty cold), what are you going to do?
