MISFIRES DUE TO LIGHT FIRING PIN HITS.

Shot my T/C Contender with 223 rem barrel today for first time. Very accurate. However, had 35-40% misfires due to light firing pin hits. Examined primers and those that misfired seemed to be seated at same depth as those that fired. Anyone know what could be causing this? ALSO-- In the manual, it says you are not supposed to put the firing pin selector to centerfire untl you cock the hammer and are ready to fire. Is it really necessary to follow this procedure?? note-I was careful to put selector on centerfire rather than rimfire. Can anyone help me? Sincerely, Twoinchgroup52.

If you have not had this problem with other barrels and calibers, and if you are not using GI ammo with hard primers, you should have the headspace checked. The headspace could be excessive or the ammo you are using is under minimum.

I have a couple of wildcat rifle cartridges
in the T/C Contender from SSK. I had the same problem. The contender was designed for
pistol cartridges. Here is the solution that
worked for me. Use pistol primers in your
loads. They will function perfectly and will
not perforate. I use Winchester large pistol
primers and I have no more problems. Try it.

Thanks Yanus. However, I don't reload yet. Do you have any idea what .223 rem factory ammo would be best given the misfire stuation I am experiencing? Thanks, Twoinchggroup52.
