Mini-14s

I've been considering one of these for IPSC rifle shoots. I've had several people say they're not acccurate enough for this purpose. However, I don't have the at least 800 bucks to plunk down for an AR right now. Could I buy a used Mini now, and send it to Clark for their heavy barrel conversion at a later date? Will I end up with something comparable accuracy wise to an AR. Thanks

If you send your Mini to Clarks you will have a match rifle for sure. It will shoot as well as any AR.

Until you have it altered, I would not use it for any match shoots.

They are super reliable and with a Bull barrel I would trust it to do just about anything.

what's the cost difference between the AR and the 14/bull barrel? If it'll end up costing about the same why not get the AR? Just something that wansered thru my mind. :)

Concur. You can spend the bucks to make a Mini14 accurate, but the cost is such that you should save up to buy an AR. Besides, magazines are cheaper.

I agree.. But we may have to hand over those Ar's, I hope not. A Mini with a Bull Barrel would not be a bad replacement.

I've heard that Kalifornians can keep an AR15 rifle, registration free, by substituting a .22rimfire upper barreled receiver for the .223 barreled upper. The .223 upper would not have to be registered, as it is not a "firearm" as defined by law.

If I lived in Kalifornia near one of the "friendlier borders", I would use the .22 within Kalifornia and the .223 in the border states.

The Mini is a poor substitute. Sorry, but that's the truth.

Something to think about!
