mini-14:parts breakage, S&B ammo?

Is there anything on the mini that is prone to breaking, beside the ranch rear site. I would get the blue regular model. How many rds do you have through yours?

Do you use Sellier & Bellot ammo?

Would it be better to get the synthetic stock to improve accuracy?

thanks

I'd be interested in hearing more about this to.. seems like there ain't much on the thing that *could* easily break, but ya never know.

And I think putting a synthetic stock on a Mini to improve accuracy is kinda like putting race tires on a tractor to improve speed... that just ain't what it's made for, and there ain't much sense trying to make it what it ain't:

The stock ain't the limiting factor, so there don't seem much point to it. Still... looks like a fun little carbine-- can't wait to pick mine up!

I pretty much stick to Winchester FMJ ball for most of my shooting in the Mini-14. I have never had one ounce of problems, even if I forget to clean her.

Honestly, I think this rifle would shoot forever with any kind of abuse. It is totally realiable. Still, I do take care of mine, in part, because it is so simple to clean.

I feed mine whichever surplus ammo is cheapest at the time. South African, IMI, Guatamala, etc. S&B should do fine. Mine easily does minute of 2 liter coke bottle with everything I've shot in it.

I've read that the synthetic stock is like a quick bedding job, that it does tighten up groups some. If I were going to buy one today, I'd definitely consider the synthetic stock...

My Mini-14 has been 100% reliable and will print 3-4" 100 yard groups even when it's hot. (Hot is a relative term, it's usually over 100 degrees when I go to Rio with it.)

Parts are rather durable and there are fewer parts on the Mini than on the M-14. However, there is one "operator" error like improperly assembled rifles. If the trigger unit isn't properly aligned before the guard is pushed down to latch it in place, it can fall out. They're not tack drivers, but they're pretty reliable.
