I spoke to Claudia at John Masen about a week ago. She said they just finished modifying the tooling for the new 10 round mini-14 mags. I ordered 20 for $9.50 each. I got them in yesterday. Man, they look well build. Steel. The fit and finish is awesome. I will test them at the range in about a week and report back. They were nice on the phone and shipped promptly.

tooled or re-tooled

I hope you have better luck than I did. I ordered two of the "re-tooled" Mini-14 10-rounders in November. Neither would fit in the magazine well of my Mini-14, and I sent mine back. Pehaps the re-tooling has been again re-tooled?

I agree: a good 10-rounder would be very desirable for said rifle. Whoever can make one that works will find a ready market.

Millett makes one that works!

I have several and have used them for over a year, they are a tough grade of transparent plastic, not steel, but they feed rounds into the mini's chamber like they are on an elevator.
No malfunctions, no jams... just do their jobs and place the rounds correctly for chambering and let the rifle do the job it was designed for. now if the rifle would just send the bullets on their way accurately...but Hey! It's a Ruger!:p :D

Happy Seasons All:)

Thanks longeyes. From what I understand, they retooled in the early summer. Then, they still had problems. I spoke to Claudia in late November and she said they had to modify the tooling again. I just received my mags last week. I hope you did not have the "latest" version. Anyways, I will test them by Friday and report back. I did get the strong feeling that they stand behind their products. I hope they will make it right for you.

For what it is worth, they look like the most well built aftermarked mags I have ever seen.

If these don't work, I have heard good things about Millet, Eagle, and Promag 10 rounders.

Photo's - I will take a pic when I post the results on the mags.

I have also heard extremely positive things from 5 or 6 people about the groups being cut in half by simply putting on a muzzle brake on the mini-14. I am going to try this also friday. Apparently, the weight of the brake effects the vibration on the skinny barrel.

I can live with 4" groups on the mini. It is a fun gun for my 9 year old to shoot and a great SHTF gun for my wife. My go-to rifle is the Garand.

I fired off some of my own .223 reloads from my New Dillon 550 and I put 8rds in a 1 in group. It was a very cold day but I shot Sporting clays at 200yds standing up (I have a 3-9x scope on it ). I have an M14 style muzzle brake on mine but I'm not really sure if that makes any difference. Good ammo can make a world of difference in just about any Semi Auto. I've been saying for years that If SOMEBODY would make good quality 10rd mags for the Mini 14 they would make some major $$$$$

From all the USA mags I've seen malfunction it only took a pair of needle nose plyers and NEW followers to make them work right. USA needs to put $5 more into there mag Followers and they would have it right.

I will say this: they were communicative and cooperative. I got a refund for mine, no questions asked. I look forward to your review of your mags. I'd still be interested in some if they function properly now.
