mim parts in Colts

Really interested in getting a Colt combat commander, anyone know if Colt is using MIM parts?

The two biggest 1911 forums agree that Colts have used only the following MIM parts for a number of years:

sear
disconnector
magazine catch
magazine catch lock

Every thing else is forged (slide, frame, barrel) or cast (safety, grip safety, etc).
Hammers, extractors, etc are bar stock.

Isn't the main spring housing still plastic?

It depends on the model; some have metal mainspring housings and some have nylon ones.

If you buy a used one, inspect the extractor. For a time, Colt used MIM extractors, but that didn't work out to well for them so they switched back to bar stock.

The MIM extractors only existed for a short time, maybe 1998-2000 or so. Colt used cast extractors for awhile before then, and then switched to barstock after the MIM fiasco.
