Millet scopes?

What's the story on Millet scopes, are they still in production? If so, has anyone returned one for service/repair?

I've spotted a used one (DMS 1-4x) that I might make an offer on, but of course it's a gamble. I'd feel better if I knew it could be serviced.

I've got a 6-24x (?) Millet that still is satisfactory on a .22. The turrets adjustments are a bit notchy, but it still functions OK.

No longer in production AFAIK. They had a reputation as a pretty good scope, but with no warranty and no service it's a gamble. I wouldn't.

My Bro bought a 2x7 about 5 yrs ago. It was on close out from Natchez. I think it was the Designated Marksman, $150. He put it on a TC carbine in 375 Win and it has held up well.
These days if I buy a scope it will be Leupold for guarantee and service. Only because they are most stable and not likely to fold overnight.

Bottom line for me is going to be: used scope, no support service, not worth the gamble. For just a bit more money, I could buy a similar Vortex, or a Leupold Freedom, and both of those outfits will stand by their products.

I mostly run Leupolds or Burris's anyhow, but I'm fascinated with the reticle in the Millet DMR scope, a sort of illuminated German #1.

Unless you get a little known brand product really inexpensive, it's not worth buying. Millet may or may not have had a good product, guess we'll never really know. But there are so many good name brand company's with long track records, why bother with an unknown unless the price is really right!

I bought a pretty much unknown level wind reel for no other reason than I could not believe the way a guy on the internet was trashing it as much as he was. Nothing could be that bad! Looked it up and the price was about $45 brand new. Well I could afford to blow $45 so I got it just to find out. If it was garbage it was inexpensive enough to simply throw away. Turned out to be a sample of one and a very nice reel. For $45 it may have been the deal of the year but had it been say $55 I would not have took the chance. Taking that chance all depends on price to me. Now if I had wanted to spend more on a reel, I love ABU Garcia's and they have a long track record. If that Millet scope is inexpensive enough, I'd give it a try!

Millet was sold to Bushnell. They still make mounts and stuff, but not scopes as far as I know. A friend of mine returned a Millet to Bushnell and got a Bushnell scope as a replacement. This took place this year.

Millet is a brand bought out by Vista in 2008. Repair work is handled by Bushnell. You might inquire and see what they say about service work long term. http://www.millettsights.com/resources/customer-service/

If you like the optic and it is a good price, I'd not pass on it. Even if, at some point, Bushnell stops working on them, there are other options for service work and the costs are not terrible.
