I have a relation who lives in Oregon (Medford are in Southern OR) and he wants to find a militia group to join, any suggestions? Anyone know any of the groups and where they hail from?

... But as for me, give me liberty or give me death!

I would strongly suspect that any militia group that's publicly talked about has long since been penetrated by the FBI. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is a matter of opinion...

But it seems to me that joining a militia group is a real good way to get unwanted attention from the feebees. And in a TEOTWAWKI situation, your relation would have just put himself on the list of those to get unwanted attention FIRST.

Have him consider the Oregon State Defense Force. It is a state sanctioned militia unit. It is like the National Guard, but can only be activated by the Governor, not the President. It is all-volunteer. Many states have a equivalent organization.

I personally see no need to join a "militia" as I am already in it per the founding fathers.

Is that legal???? I mean if an FBI agent (or anyone acting on behalf of the government) enters into a "search" for illict activites dont they need a warrant? The Bill of Rights was written for a reason!

OK, you can have fun with me now, but I've just gotta ask ... why does someone join a militia group? Honest - I'm curious.

We considered starting up a Scottsdale, AZ militia, but the charter members couldn't choose between a 7-iron and an 8-iron. ;)

Tell him that he's already a defacto militia member. All able-bodied men are.

As for joining some group of sillies running around the forest in camo? Well, I guess I consider that very immature. If he want's to be tough, tell him to take up deer hunting with a good rifle. The skills learned there will make him an excellent sniper should the oft-imagined SHTF scenario.

I have a police officer friend who "runs around in the forest" playing paintball games. He considers it both a fun hobby and a way to improve his skills (as a hunter, as a cop, and as an American).

He's young, quiet, soft-spoken, and very tough! I don't think I'd want to call him "silly". ;)

I'm too old and crippled up to join him - but it looks like challenging fun. Besides, afterwards they all get together (winners AND losers), put the guns up, and have a few Shiner Bocks! In THAT I can participate! :D

Give a friend a Shiner!

ROTFLMAO

First, no "search" is performed. All they do is have an informant join. No need for a warrant for that. And even if it was against the law, that's never stopped the FBI before...

Hate to say this, but some of the NW militias
have suspect views on race, ethnic hatred, etc.

If you want a group that supports the constitution, that's fine but watch out for the others.
