All right you aficionados, what the heck is an M-12? I do know that it is a .22 target rifle and was designed to be used as a target weapon only but I've never heard of one and my marksman brother-in-law brought one while he's visiting over Christmas. So,,,,I need to be able to show some intelligence about this piece. Any help out there??

Just checked my reference books and several on-line sites and Ihave found no mention of an M-12 in general military service. Perhaps it is a civillian .22 used for rifle marksmanship training?

The M12 is a single shot target .22 made by Harrington and Richardson for the U.S. Army.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program http://www.odcmp.com sold some earlier this year. I was lucky enough to get one. A 12 pound single shot .22 is an interesting beast.

I got to inspect the M-12 yesterday. It is an impressive .22 I'll tell you that. My brother-in-law had Palma sights on it and it weights every ounce of 12 lbs. I guess that makes it more accurate. Thanks for the info, guys.

It is the military equivilent of the H&R 5200. The action is loosely based upon the Model 52 Winchester according to an old NRA article.

I bought one of the CMP M12's. It came brand new with Redfield Palma rears and an Olympic front. It also has target scope blocks. My M12 now wears a Redfield 3200 20X target scope. These are accurate rifles mainly suitable for prone shooting.
