I purchased an old 38 special and I am trying to find some info on it.
ser# is V189010 I dont have any clue about age or if it was military it does say United States Property on it. and below the ser # is stamped GHD and there is a signia that looks like an 8 but the top of the 8 has what looks to be flames.

You have what is known as a Victory Model.
It is a Smith & Wesson Military & Police made during WW II as a secondary standard for US forces. (We also sent a bunch of them to England in caliber .38-200 = .38 S&W)

GHD is the mark of the chief inspectory, Guy H. Drewry
The "signia" is the Ordnance Bomb.

Resale value depends absolutely on condition.
Show close clear pictures and somebody will make a guess.

But since you purchased it, you surely paid what you thought it was worth, which is the only real value that matters.

I don't know what the other markings means, maybe the pictures will make sense of them.
