Cool. I've always wondered how to use mil dots.

How many snipers carry calculators with them? It _would_ be cool to have those in my scopes, though.

Question: at what magnification are mildots used? 10X?

The M-40A1 Marine sniper rifle had a 10x Unertl scope on it. I have no idea what the other services use/used.

All the mildot systems that I have seen or heard of are set up for use at the highest magnification of the scope in question. Although they can be set up for any power, at precision rifle courses, frequently you see 10x fixed or variable scopes with a top range of 10x with mildots.

Mil dots as taught by the example Noban has provided a link for is calculated for 10x scopes. Once you start playing with the power, you'd better be good in math.
