Could I get the skinny on these two? When mfg., any cautions, etc.

1. Model 49, 1 7/8" bbl, SN ANS04XX

2. Model 629-2, 3" bbl, unfluted cylinder, SN BEE34XX

Also, when did S&W discontinue their blued revolvers in relation to the agreement (before/after)? Thanks.

The Model 49 was probably sometime in 1986.

The 629 was probably sometime in 1989. There were HUGE blocks of serial numbers being gone through during those times, so it makes it kind of hard to extrapolate an accurate year/month.

Most of the blued revolvers had been discontinued by the time the agreement was signed.

Mike, can you tell whether the 49 is rated for +P?

What's a good price for the 629-2 in NRA excellent condition?

I don't think S&W said the J-frames were specifically +P rated until sometime in the early 1990s.

A few +Ps won't kill the gun, just make it wear faster.

As for the price of the 629, here in Northern Virginia it would probably be seen on a table at a gunshow with at least $375 on it, and probably more. I don't really pay attention to the prices on the stainless guns, as I'm not much interested in them.

Prices will vary quite a bit region to region, though.

No problem. This will probably turn out to be academic anyway, with PRK's 1-gun-a-month BS.
