I'm thinking about getting a .308 rifle for ranges of 500-600yds, with a mid-power optic. I want it to be semi-auto and capable of 2-2.5moa groups (or better). I've been looking at some FALs, PTR-91s, and AR-10s. What are the pros and cons that you have experienced? Are there options out there that I'm missing?

Thw AR platform is the most inherently accurate of those mentioned. M1A is a great choice, but it costs a little more. PTR is a good weapon that can be had for a little over a grand, but it is not really that accurate and, if you are a reloader, it beats up brass. FAL is a very reliable rifle, but then again generally not as accurate as AR or M1A. I personally prefer the M1A because out at 400-600 yds you can use the iron sights and hit your target.

You missed the often overlooked saiga. Especially the arsenal converted version or the red jacket converted version. Or you can save some money by converting it yourself.

Some .308 AR variant, ArmaLite or LMT would be my choice. The M1A in full length or the shorter SOCOM length is another possibility. These do cost more than other .308's but you get what you pay for. In the end it's personal preference.

I have an Scout version. avg. 1.5-2moa with surplus ammo. I added a Vltor modstock, Trijicon Accupoint scope and a few other bits. Scope mounting is high but with practice you'll get used to it.
Accurate, reliable and durable.
DSA FAL, pick your flavor there too.
I've had some range time with a mid-length version of their FAL. If I would have found one before the M1A, I would have bought it. Accuracy is comparable, scope mounting seems better.
